A MEXICAN MERCADO DOWNTOWN: IS YOUR MAMA A LLAMA?

(Ed.'s Note: One of or seven readers wondered why Market Square took on the appearance of a Mexican mercado Thursday. During the Viva Mexico celebration, booths featuring Mexican handicrafts, foods, and the sounds of performances by traditional dancers and artists filled the air. Even pony rides were offered to the kids. If you guessed that the animal looking into the camera on the bottom right is a llama, you are right. And no, we don't think it was Lloyd looking for his mama.)

Brownsville shop-owners / venders could create a sort of Olvera St (like in L.A.) to give visitors a taste of this border life / culture right there on E Washington where there is still a lot of signage in Spanish and let Market Square have it's own character albeit even if it tries to be like Austin. Most folks are afraid to visit Matamoros so bring Matamoros to them on this side. The Majestic already does this but it has little exposure for the casual visitor who is interested in the new 'developments' downtown.

At the majestic I bought this large round bamboo Plate 40 inch in diameter. With the imagen de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. So beautiful.
