AT MR. AMIGO GARCIA'S FETE, PAST PRESIDENTS PIG FOR FREE

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

The fallout from the Mr. Amigo Association's past presidents' scandalous behavior apparently does not end with Bob Torres trading choice insults with Zeke Silva at a popular Mexican restaurant mistakenly blaming him for leaks from within the group.

The MAA officers always take Mr. or Ms. Amigo to Garcia's Restaurant, owned by Emigdio Garcia, just across the Gateway Bridge in Matamoros to "freshen up."

Nothing wrong with that, observers say, but some members and financial sponsors of the MAA say that the group always drops a pretty penny at Garcia's in the three or four hours they "freshen up" there, taking pictures with that year's Amigo with their families.

"There's nothing wrong with that," they wrote. "What is wrong is that Garcia is getting paid by the Matamoros government to host this 'refreshing' event and to have Mr. Amigo spend with government officials' relatives and friends when the City of Brownsville is the top sponsor of Mr. Amigo and yet he spends not time with city employees.

"If the city employees want to see Mr. Amigo they have to pay to attend the city luncheon ($100 per person) and there is no picture included.

"Another example is the Brownsville Public Utility Board's $10,000 donation and the visit to the PUB doesn't last more than 30 minutes. Why is this (Garcia's refresher) done?," the writer aksks. "Well, it is done because (past presidents) Bob Torres and the Maldonados (Leo and Liz) schedule it, and because Torres Jr., the Maldonados, and more recently, Eliceo Davila and Graciela Salazar go there to get to eat and drink for free."

"Why doesn't the refresher take place in the Presidencia, like in the past?," the source saks. "If Garcia's wants Mr. Amigo to visit the restaurant they need to at least to be in the $10,000 sponsor level. Let's hope new City Manager Noel Bernal wakes up and stops this bunch."

The writer also says that it is common knowledge among members that past president Arturo Trevino and Davila, lean on LFD distributors for beer donations for Mr. Amigo and Beer Fest, and then take some of the beverages to sell at the Trevis Drive Thru.

It seems like a small group, he continues, have allowed the MAA to become a self-serving organization for a select group of past officials and lost sight of the mission of the organization to foster goodwill between the sister cities. Will something be done?, the writer asks.

Is that why the Volunteers at the Charro Days Cantina (Feb 27, 28,&29) could only accept CASH moneyfor the beer and Wine?
1. Cash/Money sometimes disappears while in transfer from A to B???
2. Sometimes or most of time some of the CASH monies are not reported to IRS?
3. Somebody has been mamando titi for a long time? Ask TreviƱo, Torres, Maldonado and all the rest of the Past Presidents/Mamones?

They don't do it for the free stuff. They don't do it for all the cash that changes hands without any audits. They do it because of their love for the community. LOL!
