REMINISCING WITH COUSIN BALDE, FREDDIE FENDER

(Ed.'s Note: We were listening to Freddie Fender's Amor Perdido on the jukebox over at Ernie Avalos'  Sportsman's Bar when Rusty Garza, (at left in photo above) told us that Freddie was his aunt's son, in other words, his cousin. We, of course, were doubting Tomases, but he pulled out his cell phone and found this photo of Freddie and Rusty's bro on an occasion that they celebrated their aunt's birthday, a Huerta, as Freddie's real name is Baldemar Huerta.

Fender's rendition of the old classic Amor Perdido is a beautiful acoustic virtuoso act. If you ever see a performance by the Texas Tornados, you can see the range of talent the cuz from San Bene had above and beyond "Wasted Days and Wasted Night," or "Before the Next Teardrop Falls." Thanks for the photo Rusty.)
