It was 1944 and the United States was still engaged in the War to Make the World Safe for Democracy. The War to End All Wars (WWI) was thing of the past.
On the home front in South Texas, during the war years, patriotism was well defined as Americans did what they could to help in the war effort.
Brownsville High School saw many of their peers marching in tandem to join the conflict.
The Senior Class dedicated the yearbook, the Palmetto, to those students. It was with great pride
that we seniors, upheld the "Good Neighbor Policy" in this time of uncertainty.
In those days, Brownsville schools were considered some of the best in the state and its sports teams put bigger districts to shame. The came the war...
Still, it wasn't all war that occupied the minds of high school students then, as other things occupy their minds now besides the COVID-19 crisis. In that year, Juanita Fernandez (below), was elected most beautiful.
In the years that followed, BHS students returned to their old ways and frolicked in the city with their hot cars and dates. Compared to what is going on today, those were the good old days.

“The virus doesn’t ask for papers, for citizenship or immigration status. So if people are concerned about fighting for toilet paper at the grocery store — wait until there’s no meat and no vegetables.” - Domingo Garcia, president of LULAC
Garcia was addressing the lack of federal aid for America's farmworkers.
That's an English song, Montoya. Use lyrics from a Mexican song!
Trump is a useless whiney crybaby. He'll fuck us to hell. Register to vote by mail, and drop your completed ballot at a registered polling place if you're concerned that it won't get to the ballot box.
Wow! What’s a beautiful girl
It's Trump's fault!
I’m a Democrat n Trump has been brilliant
Nostalgia for the "good old days" when Gringos were in charge of Browsville. They were indeed better times. Mexicans are now in charge of Browsville and see what they have produced, corruption, rampant poverty and ignorance. Asi es la vida aqui en Mata Norte.

Yes, the gringos who were the leaders of Brownsville then, did more with less. Our present mayor is full of pizza and a puppet of Adela Garza. She is leading the TSC board to no where... along with the other hopeless leaders... Ruben Herrera, Tony Zavaletta, JJ, and Eva Alejandro
Yea right more with less. Less because they pocketed every penny they saw and there were no potholes why? because no streets were paved, no red lights WHY? no traffic lights, no flooding why? it never rained! ooops NO BLACK DUCKS why? I don't know about that one. No aah schools no football stadium no aah no nothing!!!
