MUNICIPAL JUDGE PROVIDES CURBSIDE JUDICIAL SERVICE

(Ed.'s Note: Although Emergency Orders from the State Supreme Court have postponed non-essential mandatory hearings and court sessions until June 1st, there is always the opportunity to reach out to the public to help them resolve matters.

On Wednesday, Brownsville Municipal Court Presiding Judge Bobby Lerma did just that. There was a long line at the drive-thru window and Lerma jumped in to help speed up the process. If a ticket needed a judicial ruling so the defendant didn't need to return at a later date, he was there to offer it.

A clerk standing nearby (not shown in photo) updated the case by the time the defendant got to the window. This service proved very popular with the people in line and really cleared it out quickly.

Even with perfect physiological and biological information, we can’t predict human behavior. If everyone who used to go to bars crowds to a bar, there’s going to be increased transmission. If people are judicious and there’s a handful of people in the bar, it doesn’t raise the risk much.

Thank You Bobby Lerma, for working with the community to help people resolve their court cases. The public may not be aware, but the State and Federal Courts are also working to make sure people's cases are moving along.

After many weeks of primarily video court proceedings, most courts will be resuming some form of in-person courtroom hearings starting in June. There will still be an emphasis on public safety. Jury Trials may not happen for some time, and courts may be staggering their schedules to keep the number of people inside the courthouses to a minimum.

The days of having 2,000 people inside the courthouse for jury selection on a Monday morning might be gone forever.

LMAO that photo was taken between 3 and 3:02 pm. Everyone knows that anytime after that he is drunk. Anytime before that, he is too hungover to be out in public.

No todos lo ojos cerrados duermen; ni todos los ojos abiertos ven. Eso chingo !
