DUBIOUS MILESTONE: CAMERON COUNTY BREAKS 1,000 CASES

WESLACO, Texas (Border Report) — Four South Texas county judges expressed their frustration with fighting the coronavirus pandemic on the border and the long-term economic impact it is having on their communities.

In a rare joint news conference, all four leaders — Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez; Starr County Judge Eloy Vera; Willacy County Judge Aurelio “Keter” Guerra; and Cameron County Eddie TreviƱo Jr. — made clear the unique challenges facing the border region during this COVID-19 crisis.
They also mentioned how federal funding to fight the virus will most likely be tied to census results, likely impacting smaller communities going forward.

“When the governor took away our ability to manage ourselves locally and opened up the economy, as well as ordered more testing, we knew that the number of infections would rise. We also were concerned these restrictions were having a negative impact on our local economy,” Cortez said. “Quite honestly, I don’t want to blame the governor. I don’t want to blame anybody because we know what to do to stop this trend of cases.”

"We made a huge announcement today. We have four county judges from this area basically telling our communities we have a serious problem and everyone needs to pay attention to it and it’s not going to go away,” Cortez said.

“As the restrictions that were in place in each of our counties were eased by the governor, that also is a possible cause of this increase. What concerns us now is that the community is not taking responsibility for themselves.”

I knew we were in trouble in Texas when Trump complimented Governor Abbott who is Trump's lapdog and in synchrony with his COVID-19 "strategy." Abbot is mirroring Trump's rhetoric about opening the economy, everything will be fine, Ostrich with the head in the sand, and back to business as usual. In the Rio Grande Valley and Cameron county, COVID-19 cases are now at 1,000 cases while less than a week ago there were 800 cases. Good luck opening school in August for face-to-face classes in the BISD.

Will the Gomez family, 77 Flea Market, have attendees/vendors assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to them liable for illness or injury related to the virus?

Mendez on his post stated that he cannot make facial coverings mandatory, he cannot impose curfew and he cannot lock down the city because the Governor’s orders supersede his and Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr’s. He added he fully comprehends the economic impact and the necessity for people to go back to work, but is must be done safely.

“This does not mean we are back to normal. Continued increases in movement and occupancy of businesses will lead to more cases,” he wrote. “I’ve said and done just about everything I could to stress the seriousness of this virus and the urgency and importance of protecting yourselves. Be safe out there.”

The texas racist republican governor cares about his idol trumputo and nobody else.
Y los pendejos de aqui are so stupid they listen to them bola de babosos.

Stay at home and if you can't wear protective gear...

Cameron County needs to be more transparent about the number of county employees that have tested positive. The county should make it known which offices have had positive cases. It is irresponsible not to inform the residence of the risk we take by entering buildings that have had known positive cases of Covid! Get your act together Cameron County!
