ABBOTT'S TWEAK IN TIME MAY SAVE SOME, BUT MAYBE NOT

With the stroke of a pen, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has extended the early voting period for the November 3 elections by almost a week.

The little heard of proclamation by the governor was issued last week, July 27, to be exact. A few candidates had heard of it an one – that of Texas Southmost  College chair Adela Garza – had to convince Cameron County Elections Administrator Remi Garza that Abbott had actually issued the extension.

Under Abbott's proclamation (click on graphic to enlarge), early voting will be from October 13 through October 30. The general election is four days later on November 3.

It also stretches the time that someone may deliver the mail-in votes in person until election day.

Depending on who you talk to, this either  gives the challengers or the incumbents an advantage. This year has been different than those before in many ways. And this year, aside from the Democrat-Republican candidates, the non-partisan races for Texas Southmost College and the Brownsville Navigation board of trustees will also be held,
