Scenes like this are repeated too often in our city where the municipal-owned utility spent millions squeezed from PUB ratepayers chasing an ephemeral gas-generated electric power plant and rewarded the mistaken administrators with salaries in the $300,000 range even after they admitted failure.
This particular bus stop (sign) is on a stretch of Old Port Isabel Road. This woman probably had to walk several blocks to wait for her ride. A bench made from recycled plastic would have cost a trivial sum to allow her to rest after the trek in the blazing sun. For some reason, Bus Metro and the the city administration and commission choose to splurge public funds on services for the few instead of making service to the common citizen a priority.)

Buses are always empty wasteful spending stop pretending our city operates on all cylinders. We steal at every level someone will always pick up the tab on our dime! It comes with the territory.

Bus services needs so many improvements this comment section isn't large enough to list them.
Look at the bus services in San Antonio's website. Very comprehensive.
It could help if the City of Brownsville would follow the San Antonio plan to a tee.
Maybe things will improve.
This blog's reminder that the Bus Stops need shade is a start.
If more routes and more scheduled pickups were made available more would take the bus and more revenue would support these routes.
Maybe adding a special taxing district similar to one for the Brownsville Navigation District or BISD could allow for the needed tax base to make these improvements.
Or better yet sell the bus routes to a Taxi company or an ambulance service.

Very unfortunate people, their on means of transportation is public transit. With all the millions of federal funding that Bmetro receives every year, they should invest in more bus shelters for the most needed. Our citizens deserve better conditions.
