I was sad to read of the passing of music legend and Dallas’ favorite son, Trini Lopez. The article mentioned that Lopez appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1965, just a year after the Beatles first performed on that same show. But did you know that in the three weeks prior to the Beatles’ first Sullivan appearance, Lopez played on a bill with the Beatles during their three-week residency at Paris’ Olympia Theatre?
The Paris engagement ended on Feb. 4, 1964, and just three days later, the Beatles landed on our shores. Two days after that, they appeared on the The Ed Sullivan Show for the first time.
On the last night in Paris, reporters visited Lopez. He later recalled: “My dressing room was next to theirs [the Beatles] and they said “Mr. Lopez, the Beatles are leaving tomorrow for New York. Do you think they’ll be a hit? I said, ‘I don’t think so.‘ I whispered ‘cause I didn’t want them to hear me. They said, ‘Why not?‘ I said, ‘Because in America there’s a group I like much better than these guys called the Beach Boys. And I really liked ‘em much better. Little did I know …”
Like the Beatles, Lopez has secured his place in music history. Rest well, sir.
BISD does discriminate against classified we were never given an opportunity to work remotely because we're "essential" but they haven't installed the plastic shields on our desk as they said they would and we deal with parents, students and staff. They only installed them in front office for show in case someone comes in to see.the mask that were provided are fashion mask but I don't see anyone saying anything to them or holding them accountable not the city or county. Then they want you to sign a paper that you are going voluntary. Dr. Gutierrez and board members should be hold accountable directly if someone gets sick or dies. They can't take care of it's employees you think they are going to take care of students. They are not disinfecting how they said they would.
