THIS AIN'T YOUR ABUELITA'S BOTANA SERVED BY THE BISD

(Ed.'s Note: If there is one cardinal rule to school attendance, it is that you can count on school kids to complain about the cafeteria food. This year, apparently, it is no different. The lunches – after their distribution was suspended due to the COVID-19 crisis – are now being picked up by parents outside some Brownsville Independent School District schools.

Sure enough.

On the very first day of distribution Tuesday, the bellyaching about the food distributed started at the schools started in the form of emails to this bog. There weren't the burritos, tacos, or anything resembling the daily fare eaten at most Brownsville homes on the BISD menu. And there were no refried beans, carne guisada tacos or even tortilla chips, never mind barbacoa, a suspect dish now at the district following the stench created by the spoiled meat during the Barbacoagate scandal.

The sandwich above is labeled grilled cheese, although it's encased in plastic wrapper and probably requires some preparation to make it edible. For some reason, we don't expect local kids who seem content to munch on red-hot Takis (the hotter the better) to fight over the broccoli and mini-Cinnis included in the lunch.

We're from the old school and feel – like the majority of residents here profess to do – that food is sacred (la comida es sagrada) and should never be disdained. And it is probably healthy and nutritious. But perhaps a little tweak of the menu by school dieticians might be in order to quell the carping over the chow. As we said, complaints over school food are predictable, but in this case the fare seems to be geared toward kids in the Dallas suburbs or rural Minnesota than to those in South Texas.)

Only meskins will complain about food they are NOT paying for. If you don't like it, use your SNAP card and get what you like!

Dejen de ver las novelas y aganle de senar a los nuercos. No mas comen chetos, takis, pizza, y chicken wings. Estan muy mal impuestos - los huercos y las viejas!

My mother packed me a lunch in a paper sack everyday of my young life for school. One sandwich and a bag of chips. Oh, this was paid for by my dad’s one-hundred dollar a month salary in the US Army. Even the DOD schools made students buy their own lunch. So what has happened...Mexicans have been getting free shit so long that they expect a fucking Lucy’s at school FREE OF CHARGE! Mexicans have been WHINING for so long that it has become embedded in the culture. Oh, another problem...the parents are either too lazy or too drunk to get their asses out of bed to care for their children. The day of public schools babysitting your kids is over! Hallelujah!7

BISD has to follow dietary guidelines set by federal funding source. If people don't like the food BISD is serving, cook for your own kids! We have created a welfare state and welfare culture where not only do people expect freebies, they want freebies to be of their liking. Be grateful for what get/have. Raza!!!!

Mom, if you work, get up earlier, if you don't, STOP being LAZY, that is why you are FAT, make your own breakfast and lunch FOR YOUR KIDS.
That is NOT a "Mexican" thing, that is a GENERATIONAL thing. If you think only mexicans do it, ask the people in the appalachian areas, in the black hoods and mom gets food stamps because there is no dad but where did the kids come from if there is no dad?
STOP extending the hand and get an education.

Wonder who provides those meals and how much are they charging us tax payers? Was the contract bid out? Maybe our Covid Martyr has that as well. They have the sign and printing contract.

30k a month Superintendent. Send him a plate every day. All that we remember from Covid19 and BISD is those pinche surveys that are all for show. No one got the hot spots they requested. They ran out. A parent submitted the survey like 30 times and nothing. A teacher that works for BISD says the person doing all these surveys earns like $100K and all she does is surveys to claim all is so perfect. Take that pinche survey down from bisd website already. My son did not get a hotspot either.

When someone is angry, they should refrain from reacting on the blog until they cool down, for they attack the computer word processor at 90 mph with hate and dismay, that they hit wrong keys, once in a while. Forgive me for being that person and spelling HUERCOS incorrectly. I need to learn to control my temper. How can you when you read about such "chingaderas" every day. Did I spell "chingaderas" right? My apologies to the spelling bee champ de la 4:23. Stand me in the corner!

Did Dr. Eder get this contract without a bid?

Next time get the budget for the food.

That looks like a bag of junk food from a vending machine.

Come on that's not a meal you should serve growing children. County prisoners get better meals than that.

There is a group Team Brownsville, volunteer women and kitchens cooking every day to provide hot, homemade meals to the migrants in the camp.

If they can put together volunteers to make and distribute fresh good food for people on the other side of the bridge for free, surely BISD with its massive hundreds of millions budget could figure out how to make decent hot meals for its kids. We, the taxpayers, are paying a shitload of taxes to BISD for this, to give our kids good food and good education.
