VERY DIFFERENT MEMORIES OF THIS 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

"We don't live in normal times."

This cliche has become the catchphrase of our strange new norm in these times of COVID-19.

We ain't in your grandma's school days anymore.

For the first time that anyone can remember, classes will be held via Zoom with teachers standing in an empty classroom and addressing a camera which in turn will be broadcast to the personal computers, tablets, or notebooks of students at their homes.

Will it be successful given the digital divide in Brownsville's poorer subdivisions and barrios? Or will it be the same with the Haves participating and the Have Nots in the dead zones being left out? We already know that the BISD has been juggling the distribution of computers, just this week taking them from the first-graders to hand them to kids in the higher elementary grades to make up the shortage there.

Then there is the insistence of the BISD schools and the charters that students wear at least their uniform tops while Zooming (is that a verb now?) for their daily classes. No, the administrators say, they don't have to be new uniforms, last year's uniforms will do as well since there's no P.E. and won't get dirty.

Is it a subliminal way to build the bonds of this cyber social group?

Some BISD parents were skeptical on the motives and suspect the district's schools want to make sure the parents purchased the uniforms for this year.

Since when have such questions arisen at the beginning of a school year?  These are very different times, indeed.

(Notice that among the apples and roses on the teacher's desk brought for her by the students are included a bottle of hand sanitizer and wipes.)

Norman Rockwell. And how would he paint a classroom in 2020? This one is titled, Happy Birthday Miss Jones. In 2020 it might be titled Happy Death Day Miss Jones. Teachers are being treated as expendable.

Correction...it’s the Brownsville/Matamoros ISD where Mexicans get a free ride from American taxpayers. Hey Mexicans...kiss my ass!

I can remember where I would have benefitted more by having a robot for a teacher instead of the two most inept teachers I had in my educational career, but I can also remember the rest of my special and excellent teachers I did have. Just to be in their class and experience their smiles, their laughter, and their personal skills made me want to attend school everyday. I was fortunate to have had all but 2 in public school and 1 in college that had no business in the classroom and I thank them all for always being there for me and guiding me to where I got to be before I retired. Our gratitude towards all teachers should be our #1 priority, for we must remember that everyone who is anyone, was taught by a teacher. Parents, supports your teachers, for now you have a little bit of insight of what teachers do for your children on a daily base and indirectly, for you also! Teachers are a blessing and I was blessed to have some beautiful and intelligent teachers who did share their knowledge. What I would do now without a teacher at the front of the room is beyond me.

Since those two from the "fund the wall" did not get a stimulus check they decided to pocket the money from that project.

Maybe BISD needs to hire both of them, or maybe PUB and maybe even the port since they are constantly discovered re-directing funds to other accounts.

Director Manuela Rendon has issued a directive to stop planned face to face instruction, at the organization 57 centers. Fifty-seven centers, just hit a nerve. This is all about MONEY, how much federal monies has been issued and how much federal monies has been spend by our so called coward political leaders. Stealing off the poor and innocent victims to fill their deep pockets has always been their main concern. You damn right its funded by federal monies that has been used to victimized innocent infants and our very young loved ones. Some of the parents are maybe used to it because innocent children were taken away from their parents and taken into so called shelters such as South West Keys and other shameful shelters. Was the federal funded monies used to pay off doctors or so called Physicians assistant, to dramatize the corvid-19 crisis? It speaks for itself check out doctors such as Eder Hernandez, and Hidalgo county Dr. Jorge Vazuez, who went from getting paid $500.00 to &10,000. Also, some immigration attorneys getting rich by gathering roster list, rather bribing employees for the list, from Detention Centers to soliciting their services for later. I am amaze at the level these so called political leaders have come to. God bless us all and cover us with His Holy Spirit. Blessings to all.

Our kids are resilient and teachers are up to the challenges that modified teaching brings to the new year. I’m
Confident that we will prevail. Can’t say that for our board members and the previous ones that are crawling back! Stinks of rotten flesh go badger some other entities. We are done with you all. Stay the fuck away you good for nothings. Embarrassing for our community!

I did not wear tennis shoes from Tom McCan! Mine were from San Shu and only one dollar, but they were clean and I went to school every day. I am a Latina from the Buena Vida neighborhood and I went to La Cummings. Where did you buy your shoes - Whitman's?( 11:29 AM.) I used to cut grass to make money to buy shoes for my siblings and I. I never went barefooted to school.

Everybody in brownsville went to Whitman Army Store and upstairs there was a billiard room, but to buy tennis shos, well they never sold that type of shoe only army stuff for your info...
