WILL IT BE LAURA OR MARCO CHURNING UP THE GULF?
"TROPICAL DEPRESSION FOURTEEN HAS FORMED...The tropical wave we've been tracking in the Caribbean has developed a closed circulation and is now Tropical Depression Fourteen. It is expected to become a tropical storm later today or tonight. It will be named either Laura or Marco depending on if Tropical Depression Thirteen gets a name first or not.
"The current forecast calls for strengthening until it makes landfall somewhere along the Yucatan Peninsula. How much time it spends over land will have a major impact on the strength of the storm. We anticipate moderate weakening at this time. The storm should then regain some strength in the Gulf depending on how much wind shear it encounters. Landfall is possible anywhere from central Louisiana to the Valley. Though landfall appears most likely near Houston right now, we are on the edge of the cone, so we must continue to monitor this storm closely. We'll keep you posted on the latest developments through the weekend and into next week. {Posted Thursday 10:15am}" - Meteorologist Matt Holiner
