SHERIFF CANDIDATE CHAMBERS MAKES SPLASH IN SOUTHMOST

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Was the city giving away free COVID-19 testing people passing by the Southmost Community Police Dept. substation on Southmost Road and 29th Street this Saturday?

Or perhaps Catholic Charities or Goodwill Industries giving out food packages?

None of the above. Would you believe a John Chambers for Sheriff rally and chicken plate giveaway?

Motorists driving by the old Pronto gas station net to the police substation were surprised to se the line snake a block down Southmost and then around another block on the side street on 28th as far as the eye could see.

Chambers is facing Eric Garza in the November 3 general election and his foray into the heart of the Souhmost barrio left may doubters impressed. The sheriff election has become a bona fide race.

In return for the drivers displaying his bumper sticker on his car, they were eligible for two chicken plates. Chambers' supporters report that they:

* Placed 1,700 bumper stickers on cars
* and distributing more than 2,700 plates. Asked how he had accomplished such a large turnout in the Southmost area, Pink Ape boss and main campaign director Rodrigo Moreno would only say coyly that it could be attributed to what he called "stealth mode, guerrilla" organizing, had used no mass media advertising, and implemented something called "high-tech electorate" messaging using AI (whatever that means).
"I think a lot of people are in for a surprise," Moreno said in a phone call.

Whatever the reasons, the turnout for a Republican candidate in the city's largest barrio, his endorsement by Democratic incumbent Omar Lucio, and the viability of a two-party system in Cameron County, indicates that 2020 has not only been a highly unusual year, but that there are no any givens in the upcoming general election anymore.

A court with three Trump nominees ultimately deciding the fate of Trump's reelection could have dire implications for public trust in the court.

Why always poor Southmost with these free food plates? Why not the North Side? Is it because wealthy residents elsewhere would call the cops on these shameless politicians? NIMBY! Yes.

Eric Garza works for the cartel that’s where he is getting his money for his campaign ask him.

I will vote for the independent candidate. Republican and Democratic sheriff candidates have compromised their neutrality to the community.
I rather vote for the QUALIFIED candidate that hardly anybody talks about, that give my vote to any of these 2. We talk about how bad orange head is and these 2 are the local equivalent but, as always, our community talks about others but does not see the reflection in the mirror.

Donald J. Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes the year he won the presidency. In his first year in the White House, he paid another $750.

Are you racist republicans surprised? He needs to be re-elected again and again so he can become soluble and disappear for ever...

The way to a Mexicans heart and vote is with a chicken plate. Smart move Sheriff Chambers.

The Democrat party of 2020 is not the same party that has been able to rely on the Mexican vote for generations now. Those who can think are coming to realize this fact. The puto Dems no longer represent our core values. We are becoming Republicans by default.

Lucio is a pathetic loser!! And only reinforced what many of us thought of him, by “endorsing” lol a Republican.
Eric Garza will win this one. And since Pink Ape is Chambers campaign manager, perhaps he can ask the ape what do the feds have on him?

Almanza is the financee of Javier Reyna who is planning to run for a political position in which Almanza paid for most of his campaign that ended in a deserved loss threatening and forcing employees in the Sheriff's Office to help. I hope that citizens become aware that he is not who he portrays to be. He's a bigot, narcissistic, unethical pathetic human being and does not deserve to be in public office. Almanza remains under his control and supports Chambers. Yes the same Almanza that was arrested AWOL.
