(Ed.'s Note: El Rrun-Rrun and its seven readers wish Happy Birthday to Letty Garzoria who was spotted this morning with family who brought her flowers and cake to Emilia's Restaurant at 605 W Elizabeth St. Ms. Garzoria, who's been in the trenches fighting the bad old system that controls Brownsville, has been very vocal in her criticism of the way things have been going in the city and the Brownsville Independent School District. She has run for office a few times but despite not getting elected, has continued being a thorn on the side of the administration at both entities.
Not long ago, she and others protested the city's ban on public comment during the commission's meetings and – with a strip of tape on their mouth – got their point across. Partly as a result of acts of civil disobedience like this, the city relented and reinstituted the public comment section during meetings. Happy Birthday to Letty and keep up the good fight!)
