Unofficial reports late Sunday indicate that in a recount of the vote in Place 6 of the Brownsville Independent School District, incumbent Minerva Peña eked out an eight-vote victory over Marisa F. Leal.
The recount committee worked late into Sunday night and the final count certified closed at 9:08 p.m. was 16,552 for Peña and 16,544 for Leal.
Before the recount, Leal had won by one vote 16,535 to 16,534.
Leal had won by 10 votes at election day, but there were still some ballots uncounted. Peña whittled down her election day deficit by nine after a complete count of provisional, late mail-in and overseas military ballots was completed.
A comparison of pre-recount totals indicate that Peña gained 18 early votes and one vote on election day totals. She lost one vote in mail-in ballots.
In the letter to the BISD elections officer Pat Perez, Garza said the lateness of the hour prevented him from sending them the entire report.
"..A more formal report will be forthcoming, due to lateness of the hour this evening. The Official, (unofficial until recanvassed report), will be issued later this week, which will include the complete tally sheets and a precinct by precinct reports of the Election Day, Mail in Ballots and Provisional ballots. Early vote will be reported as a single precinct.The District will have to re-canvass the election and adopted (sic) the manual count as the final official numbers of the Election, unless there is intervening action by one of the candidates.
Mr. (Jared) Hockema and I will be glad to continue working on this matter with the district until it is resolved completely. Please feel free to call me and we can finalize the details for presentation to the board.
On behalf of Mr. Hockema and myself it was a pleasure working with the District and appreciate the confidence the you all have placed in the Elections Office and its staff."

What does this tell the citizens of Cameron county? Remi Garza needs to get another job. Uncounted ballots? Are they the ballots that were placed in the booth in a box where a lot of voters were instructed to place their ballots after they voted? Why was there a box in the ballots voting booths? Were the elections rigged? Then you have the nerve to question President Trump as to why he needed a recount. Remember Former President Kennedy was assassinated in the state of Texas.

I can’t believe Marisa was already sworn in and Minerva couldn’t stand to not have the spotlight on her. This will be a total of 16 years that she’s served on the board. Any candidate wishing to run for city, county, TSC, Port of Brownsville, and BISD elections need to heed the warning and stay away from this loser. All the people who troll his show are disgruntle employees, uneducated voters, illegal aliens, and people who are just plain negative with no solutions. Montoya you call it both ways. I have been a victim and a hero on your blog. You have to admit Erasmo Castro is a loser and will never be trusted by this community. I'm happy he lost.
