TSC BAITS ACADEMIC HOOK: WILL NEW STUDENTS BITE?

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

The Texas Southmost College Board of Trustees has approved a 20% tuition reduction for all students for the Spring 2021 semester.

The board approved the reduction at a special meeting Monday in the form of a scholarship that will be applied automatically for all students enrolled at the college whether they reside inside or outside the college district.

Newly elected TSC Board Chairman Ruben Herrera said as the pandemic continues, many students still face disruptions that put their education at risk. He said TSC leadership is doing everything it can to alleviate the stress.

“Here at TSC we are a family, and families help each other out,” he said. “Our students need to know that we are here to help them find success. This tuition scholarship has been designed to help them continue their education no matter their situation. Students can remain confident that during these uncertain times we are here to support them.”

“TSC focuses on the well-being of our students,” TSC President Jesus Rodriguez said.

(During the meeting, the board elected Dr. Antonio Zavaleta  as its vice-president and trustee Eva Alejandro was elected board secretary.)

“We are doing our best to provide the relief they need to continue their education and work toward their academic goals. We remain steadfast in making higher education affordable for our community.”

The assistance is part of the ongoing aid TSC receives under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
