These "death penalty" sanctions, as they are called, would in essence throw out the lawsuit which has been languishing since it was filed November 30, 2017.
In that case, Cornejo-Lopez claims the district discriminated against her child and buttressed her claims with no less than 13 grievances (including appeals) which had been filed by Cornejo-Lopez against teachers and administrative staff at the BISD. The list of complaints/appeals filed against teachers, principals and coaches caused many to avoid having anything to do with the judge or her progeny at the BISD. The complaints were as diverse as the curriculum offered at the BISD.

Complaint 5 was filed on Dec. 2, 2015 as an outcome of the Level 1 complaint filed Sept. 22, 2015.

Complaint 8 filed March 3, 2016.
Complaint 9 filed March 24, 2016.
Complaint 10 filed June 6, 2016.
Complaint 11 filed May 2, 2016.
Complaint 12 and 13 were combined and filed July 1, 2016.
(We got dragged into this case after we reported on the nature of the 13 grievances and had to appear for deposition.)
Wightman posted that as a result of the revelations in the Dr. Sylvia Atkinson bribery and conspiracy case, BISD attorneys could introduce recorded conversations to show that she was engaged with Atkinson in attempting to entice other district board members to settle her case in federal court for some $275,000, although she had sued for $1 billion.
During the Atkinson trial, prosecutors told the judge that Cornejo-Lopez was part of a separate investigation. They told the court that she wanted trustee Laura Perez-Reyes to support a settlement agreement in her case in exchange for her financial and political support .
Perez-Reyes had Atkinson serve as a go-between when she responded to Cornejo-Lopez's request to support the settlement agreement. Perez-Reyes did not accept Lopez's request.
(Cornejo-Lopez later said that the $1 billion was just an amount entered by the clerks in federal court when they couldn't determine the full amount of the damages alleged.)
A jury found Atkinson guilty on all eight counts Nov. 4 and is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 9, 2021.
The fearless prognosticator of past events also said that the fact that the motions back and forth between the BISD and Cornejo-Lopez were sealed meant that they contain documents which are part of a criminal investigation. There is no way, of course, that we would know now.
The BISD filed a sealed motions for dismissal of the case with sanctions November 24, a sealed response by Cornejo-Lopez filed December 8, and a sealed reply by the BISD December 9.
There's no way, of course, since they are sealed, that anyone except the parties in the fray would know. But prosecutors did acknowledge the investigation into the district judge. If some indictment does appear after January, one can always take credit for having predicted...something.

How can a certified lawyer-judge even think that her demands supercede those of others. Just because her daughter did not follow protocol in selecting her courses on her choice slip, she thinks we need to pay her $1 billion dollars. Now she claims it was just a clerical error on the amount of zeros they put in for a settlement. It is probably because she doesn't know how many zeros are in 1 or 2 million. All students are expected to follow the pre-requisites for each advanced course, the mother feels they district needs to change the whole grading policy for her. Reminds me of when Sylvia was also a student in middle school and her teachers would dread her coming into their class and have to put up with her ignorance and know-it-all attitude. I guess Elia and Sylvia come from the same mold.

At yesterdays meeting, Minnie never shut her mouth and had her 2 cents for everything that was mentions and Eddie, el sonso, would allow her to keep talking and talking. I still say that the policy committee needs to check into the number of terms that a person may serve on the school board. She thinks she is still the President.
What can we expect from our younger generation when we oldies provide such a horrible model for them to follow. All of us should think about that.

Elia lived in LA MURALLA barrio. My high school friend lived across the street from her house. She was always competing with another girl who is also a judge. Both are Hanna graduates from 1979. I don't know much about Sylvia Atkinson but her multiple jobs and legal problems in other school districts say a lot about her.
One thing for certain is the feds have her in their scope!!! There is the old adage in criminal trials that describes a person who represents himself at trial: "He has a fool for a client." Well, I wonder if there is a saying that reflects if a Judge who believes they are above the Law and in believing so also believes they are Judge and Jury in their criminal trial has a Judge and a Jury as a fool? Well the Feds will certainly find her criminal activities a pothole of unethical and misuse of THE LAW!!!

The worse about all this is that both Elia and Sylvia come from very humble families who tried their best to educate their children. They both have a strange way of thanking their parents for believing in them and giving them so many opportunities to move up the ladder. Imagine the Christmas gift that both girls are giving their parents this year; nothing but sadness and worry.
Instead of proving to themselves and to others that they were on the up and up, they both were looking for ways to pad their pockets.

Some of the horrors will be: the incessant noise that will prevent you from sleeping, the half-dozen bed checks that will wake you from your sleep, the food that I wouldn’t feed my pets with, the racist gangs that are forever stalking your every movement, the 6’ x 8’ dog kennel you will live in, no air-conditioning or heat when you need it, and the putrid odor of body fluids, vomit and industrial cleaners all mixed into one. Once upon a time I was extremely proud to be a major part of the BISD family. I worked hard to live up to my expectations as a teacher and had some excellent instructional leaders who made us accountable and to take pride in all we did. In the late 1999 and up, I saw nothing but self-serving top administrators who believed that they were the "owners" of the district. Some of us continued to work, in spite of them, until we made a decision not to be a part of such a corrupt leadership team. For a while, I felt we were going back to what it used to be, but someone thought that she was better than anyone else and ran for the school board and started her shenanigans, hiring and firing, bribing and filling her pockets and boom, we went back to the same old, same old. It was at that time that I forced myself to hang up my gloves and call it quits, for the principles that were being pushed on us were not ethical. I quit just before BISD went down the drain and laughed about thoughout the state. Self-centered board members and top administrators need to be weeded out, policies need to be brought up to date and enforced. To those that continue to work under such duress, I beg you to pull out your Code of Ethics and do what needs to be done to help and share your knowledge with our children. It feels so good to have one of your ex-students great and hug you with so much caring and love when they
run into you and thank you for having been their best teacher. Remember that and don't be discouraged so much that you loose your professional and personal values. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, enjoy your bonus that will probably just push you up to another level on your income tax, and get ready to tackle 2021 inspite of our TEA officials and governor's orders.
