Federal and local authorities have announced the capture of a robbery at the BBVA Compass Bank in downtown Brownsville that occurred around 12:41 p.m. Tuesday.
Police report the capture Tuesdday night of Julian Villarreal, 29, of Brownsville, who they say went up to a teller and handed her a note saying he had a gun and to turn over the money.
FBI spokeswoman Michelle Lee stated the suspect presented the note to a bank employee.
The Brownsville Herald said a sign posted outside the bank today stated “Sorry, we are closed due to an emergency. This office will re-open as soon as possible.”
No injuries were reported and Villarreal will be charged with armed robbery. FBI agents captured Villarreal and rurned him over to the custody of the BPD.
This is at least the third time this bank has been robbed over the past 10 years or more.

Serves them right. I went the other day to withdraw my account and had to
sit and wait for some human to come out and ask me what I needed. She passed me on to someone else and that lasted another half-hour. Within the time I was there, the bank lobby was completely empty for a long time. This would give anyone ample time to prepare for this type of a hold up, especially since we are all wearing masks. That bank has changed more names than I have changed underwear and the officers leave as soon as they are trained and realize there is no room for improvement. The poor guy was probably in there wanting to ask for a loan but they made it easy for him to go another route.
The lady in charge walks in as if she owns the bank and sees you sitting at the lobby and doesn't even acknowledge you or apologizes for the wait or even asks if you have been helped. I am glad my money was not in that bag.
Why single this guy out? Crime is rampant in Brownsville. You said it days ago when you wrote about the BPD website. Raise your game.
