RESIDENTS OF RANCHO VIEJO ARE "SPECIAL PEOPLE"

"I called Rancho Viejo and was told I don't qualify to get a voucher because I don't live there. Isn't the vaccine for everybody regardless of where you live? It's paid by the taxpayers so why are they not giving it to everybody? Is it because they all are rich and famous??? We should all get in our jalopies, horses, and wagons and drive up there and request to get vaccinated pinches ricachos garuna.." Anonymous commenter

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

It happened when the first case of a COVID-19 infection was detected in a Rancho Viejo resident who had just come in from a vacation in Spain and Ireland right at the beginning of the pandemic arriving here in March.

In that case, the parents of the infected young man took him to their condominium in South Padre Island and told the county health authorities that they had self-quarantined him even though Spring Break was at its highest. At that time there was no such things as a lockdown, face mask requirements, or social distancing.

His father – a local attorney – later thanked Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño for extending all his fine attentions to the family and no one ever knew whether anyone at the condominiums or South Padre Island bars and restaurants had come into contact with him.

And it's happening again in the distribution of vaccine.

Numerous commenters like the one quoted above have said they heard about the availability of vouchers for the vaccine and called the town office only to be told that they were only for Rancho Viejo residents above 65 years of age. Unfortunately, not all the residents of Rancho were told either, so if you knew someone, who knew someone...well, you know how it goes...

That the county elected and health officials had set aside vouchers for that privileged enclave has not sat well with the mere mortals in the rest of the county.

Then Pct. 2 county commissioner Joey Lopez lets the cat out of the bag in an Erasmo Castro podcast that each commissioner had received 750 vouchers each for the vaccine and had taken it on their own to choose the recipients instead of medical and health professionals and the political nature of the delivery became clear.

Is there a difference between one county resident and another? The kid gloves treatment by the county and its health authorities toward the town rankles most residents of the county. Why wasn't another batch delivered right down the street to Los Pinos, or the Cameron Park Colonia? No son de cachet como los de Rancho?

Why don't you mention Laguna Vista? They too only distributed to LV residents? Is it because the Pct 2 Commm is Benavides, your idols Mother In Law? It's okay for her and her constituents? What a joke!

Juan, stop bitching! Step up to the plate and tell those elected officials how to do their job the right way. Instead of giving all the negative details over and over again, give them a plan on how to distribute the vaccine. I am sure that the community would appreciate a sound plan of action instead of being frustrated in reading your constructive criticism of the actions of our County Officials. Not everybody can be a Cesar Chavez, but you can follow his lead and help your community.

Laguna vista is not in sophies pct menso.

Rancho Viejo is not Highland Park in Dallas by a longshot. It's not even North McAllen. RV is Mexico people acting uppity.

Pero hasta ellos saben que no son nada especial, porque si fueran no estarian en el Valle. Just another however-better Labor Camp!

Of those 750 doses allocated to each commissioner, you got to wonder how many were traded for blow jobs.

El coco paya Mchale is protecting the Democrat County Judge Eddie Treviños’s failed vaccine roll-out.
He is blaming Trump to shift attention away that he is a staunch Republican!

Gerry is a Republican.... everyone knows that. SMH vato seboso!

Friend says he spoke with El Paya Jerry and found him despondent, almost ready to just give up. "He's alone, has no visitors or friends," I was told. "It wouldn't surprise me if he's not around much longer".

Not covid, just old and abandoned.

President Biden getting BIG thumbs UP. Voters give a 63% starting approval rating, 69% APPROVE of Covid action.

Republicans losing clout. Oh, well.

This have never been executed by politicians it should have directed by the Cameron County health dept.

Hey, not all Rancho Viejo residents are ricachos! I know a lady who lives there that works as a provider and than also has a provider and rides around in a brand new car, better than the patients. If they are going to do neighborhoods, do it in all of them and that would solve some of the problems of letting everyone in like vacas. Is that why they clinics are held at the Mercedes Livestock Show and the Los Fresnos Rodeo grounds. Like a cattle prodding going on.

Juan:

It is the fight for life. You take the Moderna and you have a chance to live.

This is called survival of the fittest. Some will survive and others will not.

Do not do a good fight. Get the vaccine. Get the voucher.

If you don’t belong in Rancho Viejo then stay out. We pay a hell of a lot more taxes than you so we already paid for the vaccine.

If you are not a member of a church or temple, you are outta luck. If you are not a political crony, you are outta luck. If you don't reside in a gated community, you are outta luck. If you somehow get past those barriers, if you don't have transportation, you are outta luck. The vaccine distribution is a case study in elitism. I wonder what will decide who gets the vaccine when it opens up to under-65. Maybe only St. Joe's students? Natural selection has taken a peculiar turn in Brownsville: Survival of the wealthiest and most-politically-connected.

Wow, How Crass of you! Here we go again. Remember when one of your own came back from vacation and he was booted out to the island? You sure didn't keep him at Rancho, why? Oh wait, I'm waiting for the answer, because you pay taxes at the island, as well ? Well guess what? The more you own the more you pay. What a Hunger Games mentality you have.
No soy mas que tu, pero no soy menos. I've already paid for the vaccine too and I don't live at Rancho Viejo.

Nobody wants to mention their names. One crossed to Matamoros and infected people there. The others were sons of important people here in the Valley and they infected the grandfather etc

They also infected the people in the airplane, at Padre Island

The family protected them. They did not report them or seek the Health Department until they were secured.

They brought the illness to the Valley.

They use toilet paper just like everybody else gueyes.

You serve your country, you get a good education, you get a good job...the American dream, right? You earn a good salary, you want the best for you and your family. You can afford to live in Rancho Viejo so, why not? A nice, small, and safe community. Seems that the "have-nots" (most because of their own lazy choosing) are always trying to pull/put the "haves" down. We're barrio people just like you...only difference is that our parents taught us better and encouraged us to BE BETTER. Don't be jealous, get an eduction, work harder. Who knows, you too can live in Rancho Viejo.
