THOSE WITHOUT POLITICAL CONNECTIONS, GET IN LINE...

El Rrun-Rrun
Los Fresnos Correspondent

The lines seemed interminable for those who had gotten in long lines yesterday to get vouchers for the COVID-19 vaccine today at the Los Fresnos Rodeo Grounds.

Unlike those favored church congregations and political supporters of the various Cameron County judge and commissioners who received the vouchers by personal invitation and didn't have wait in line, today sons and daughters of people over 65 waited with five or six lines abreast to get the life-saving vaccine for their elderly parents.

Many are still wondering whose bright idea it was to let politicians choose the recipients of the vaccine instead of placing the task on medical professionals. But then again, that's about par for the course for the City of Brownsville and Cameron County in their handling of the COVID-19 testing and delivery of the scarce supplies of vaccine.

That the political leadership of the county allowed what should be a medical decision be tossed instead into the political realm speaks volumes of their idea of public service. Meanwhile, we wish everyone who endured the long lines and hours-long wait the best. Don't forget what our political leaders have wrought next time you vote.

The story I hear is that Joey Lopez ran into El Paya Jerry at HEB and it was McHale who put that idea in Lopez's empty brain.

That's how El Paya Jerry was able to cut the line.

Joey Lopez created this "riot," and he'll pay next election.

All lives matter. How can anyone say that one person is more deserving than another? As long as a person is 65 years or older, he/she should get a voucher. There are healthy people who are at increased risk of getting the virus and spreading it. They work 2 or 3 jobs to make ends meet, live in multigenerational households or crowded homes. Should they be denied a voucher because they don't have comorbidities? No! We need to vaccinate as many people as we can as fast as we can, especially now that scientists are finding new strains that the current vaccines may not be able to protect us against.

Nonprofit To Spend $1 Million Pushing For COVID-19 Relief Checks

WorkMoney, a nonpartisan group, is mobilizing its membership in key states to press lawmakers for $1,400 cash payments.

(The thinking is that those in Congress will pass stimulus check legislation only if they get theirs upfront)

Now that Eddie Trevino and Joey Lopez were outed, now other commissioners/local politicians should fess up if they did the same thing and catered to their own. Where's the paper trail ?

Everyone must be able to get the vaccines and especially it needs to be given to people who are more exposed to get. These are people who are living with their parents and family because of low income. If we look at the data, more people are infected are young people and children than seniors. Check the county site for numbers. People aged above are doing much better now. We know many seniors that do better now. They have govt. insurances and preferences. But the fact should be all lives are important and all lives need to be taken care with equal importance. It can be done and there are ways to give vaccines at homes avoiding all this inconveniences. Authorities need to listen from others and also see how others are doing. Thank you sir for doing a good journalism work. Let's read and make changes quick. It is going to happen. People are waking up all over.

Joey, did you hand out some vouchers to the Presbryterians, Lutherans, Baptists, Menonites, Pentecoastal????? Remember that all go to Lopez Super Market, so maybe you should have given the vouchers out at the stores.

On Thursday morning I drove to Rancho Viejo for a voucher only to be told they were for Rancho Viejo residents only. I was told to try the Browne Ave location. After waiting in line for over an hour I was fortunate enough and got a voucher. Thank you to law enforcement, healthcare workers, EMS and all others who worked giving out vouchers and at the Los Fresnos vaccination site. I was impressed at how organized the Los Fresnos EMS location was. I arrived at the location at 2:30 am and I was surprised at how many rows of cars were already parked awaiting 6 am. I was done by 7:20 am and now have a voucher for the second dose. Again thank you to all who worked at these different locations for a job well done!
