LOZOYA BUYOUT: BEN, NURITH CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR; SPECULATION IS THAT EX-GBIC CEO WILL GET $350,00-PLUS

Special to El Run-Rrun

The two-and-one-half year tenure of Mario Lozoya, the embattled Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, came to an end at 5:59 p.m. tonight as a divided City of Brownsville Commission – sitting as the board of the GBIC – voted 5-1 vote to buy out his guaranteed five-year contract for an undisclosed lump sum.

Speculation on the amount varies, with some saying taking his base pay ($250,00) plus his annual performance bonus ($30,000) and benefits and 401 K, the amount negotiated by attorney Mark Sossi, a former city and GBIC attorney, he could have held out for more than $750,000. But negotiations being what they are, it is safe to say that the negotiated agreement would be somewhere near half, or about $350,000.

But not necessarily, since when it comes to money, Sossi is your man. There's no telling.

Since Lozoya's contract money was already encumbered fo five years, it will not impact the GBIC operating budget for the next two-and-one-half years.

El Rrun-Rrun has filed a Freedom of Information Act request to acquire the agreement. And since the city commission is seating as the GBIC board, there is no need for it to go before them in a regular meeting of the council.

Voting to approve the separation agreement were mayor Trey Mendez, commissioners Ben Neece, Rose Gowen, Jessica Tetreau, and John Cowen.

And, ironically, the no vote was cast by commissioner Nurith Galosnky, one of two commissioners who had tried in court to prevent him from getting the position. Joel Munguia, as usual, was Missing In Action.

Both Neece and Galonsky were livid that the other four commissioners had agreed to the amount negotiated by Mendez and Cowen and wanted Lozoya to get nothing.

Galonsky, then on the GBIC, and Neece, on the city commission teamed up in court to prevent Lozoya from getting hired on July 2018 and had made it no secret that they wanted someone else as GBIC CEO. There has been no reason given for why they wanted him gone, other than they didn't agree with his hiring and thought he had no experience as an economic development expert.

Under these type of agreements, the employer usually agrees not to bad-mouth the other party and negatively impact his future employment, so it's probable that we may never know.

However, Lozoya's close associates say that the former GBIC CEO may have already snagged a possible contract and may have others in the fire. Lozoya was Totoya USA's top Hispanic executive before he came to take over the GBIC after the board dumped the scandal-ridden Brownsville Economic Development Corporation headed by CEO Jason Hilts and VP Gilbert Salinas.

Now who is going to buy this blogger's beer, Nurith?

In the same meeting, the commissioners/GBIC board members voted to appoint Deputy City Manager Helen Ramirez to replace Lozoya. Like Josh Mejia at the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation, she is expected to do as the commissioners want.

Why are GBIC and BCIC employees classified as City employees and getting fringe benefits? These are separate corporations and by classifying them as city employees could be against IRS regulations. But then again, compadrisimo is alive and well in the city Brownsville.

Another major screw up that sets Brownsville back AGAIN. Galonsky and Neece are two toxic individuals who have done irreparable damage to our town. They both need to go.

No one should trust a vaccine that has not been tested long term! Everybody at their own risk, but no parents that really love their children should let their kids be vaccinated just because people like Bill Gates, Pelosi, Dr. Fauci are pushing it. Answer this question. Has anyone talk about it being safe long term? Of course not! Because they can't, this vaccine was rushed, you and your kids will be the Guinea pigs for long term results of this vaccine! Parents! Think twice before you make this important decision! Your kids are worth the battle to find out if this thing is really as safe as they tell us! Can you 100% trust that people like Biden, Trump, Pelosi, Gates are really taking the same vaccine that you are taking? God gave us all a brain and common sense, let's use when it depends on the health of our kids!

Instead of using those funds to help the community with this pandemic they decided to throw it away. QUE PENDEJOS same as the county.

Is there a traffic sign somewhere that says you just arrived at the cameron county line and city of Brownsville where elected officials are just plain PENDEJOS don't give a damm about the people they should represent and keep lining their pockets.

THEY ALL NEED TO GO VOIE ALL OF THEM OUT!

He would have got more money if he would have hired a legitimate attorney.

Take a look at McAllen. They do not have the problems browntown has. The upper part of the valley is experiencing tremendous growth and the citizens prosper. It would be best if we asked Matamoros to annex browntown. Brownsville has always been on the wrong side of the wall.
