READY FOR 10 MINUTE ELECTRIC ROLLING BLACKOUTS?

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

If you live south of FM 802 (AKA Ruben Torres), you have probably been without light or heat since about 1:30 a.m.

No one can tell us, not PUB, who has posted that state utility authorities have mandated revolving outages across the state, or any city administrator or elected official when this purgatory will end.

So in some places of the city one is able to get electricity. In others, who knows?

But not to worry. If you are an animal at the Gladys Porter Zoo, you have lights and warmth. If you are some other animal south of 802, you're out of luck.

But to be fair, AEP and Magic Valley also had outages, but not on the scale as did PUB. A resident at apartments south of 802 reported that the lights had come back on at 10 a.m. after going out at 1 a.m.

At the same time, AEP customers reported intermittent outages this morning. Now none other than PUB CEO John Bruciak has confirmed that these rolling blackouts will go on for the next 2 or 3 days. Save your hot water and take short showers.

Don't get your hopes up, however. Sometimes the electricity will stay on only  for a few minutes, not long enough for the router to reset the internet.

But PUB spokespersons say you should keep abreast of the latest through the web posts. How, people ask, when you need electricity to hook up to the web site?

South of 802 – and on certain section of that road – the traffic lights are on the honor system, and you know how that goes.

No one in city government can tell anyone when this shutdown will last and refer us to the PUB black hole.

There were no shelters open by the city because "no one asked us."

All across town, workers showed up for work and huddled in the dark, cold offices waiting for the lights and heaters to kick in. Many are still waiting. Others gave up and left.

All over the valley, the hurricane shelter domes were open, except for, yup, good old Brownsville. These temperatures are expected to continue through Tuesday. Brace yourselves and don't count on your municipal utility or elected officials to come to your aid.

Stay in a warm place, preferably with friends or relatives north of 802. The rest of us, apparently, estamos jodidos.

Disgraceful.

No water.

It's not without "light;" light there is plenty of - you mean "electricity."

But the silver lining is that your bill will then be less next month.

Common sense should tell us this was bound to happen since all of us are
overusing our source of power. We needed to have prepared ahead of time in our own homes for situations like this. Thank you to the first responders I saw in my neighborhood last night working on problems in the area.

Now, the so-called Board of Directors PUB should actually sit down and work on a plan to avoid this type of problem. Lucky for us that we do not experience this kind of conditions often.

Pathetic city leadership, they knew this freezing temperatures were coming and did nothing to provide shelter to the most needed. The Sports Park dome sits empty when it could have provided some relief. Shame on city commissioners and management staff for not being prepared.

Y los muchachos del barrio le llamaban loca
Y unos hombres vestidos de blanco le dijeron: "Ven"
Y ella gritó: "No señor, yo no estoy loca
Estuve loca ayer, pero fue por amor"

Trump mentality people are causing these outages. Me, me, me! I want my house at 95 degrees warm and toasty. I want to run all my TVs and all my water heaters and cook a 3 hour dinner on my electric stove and we can't let the lady's hair look bad gotta let her run the blow dryers and the hot irons, and the dishwasher and the washing machine and then the clothes dryer and the foot warmer and the pool heater. Nope, we won't inconvenience ourselves by giving those things up. Freeeedum! The govemint won't tell me how hot to run MY home!
Then the transformer pops and everyone's ass is in the freezing cold.

Come on Trump people. Stop sucking up all the juice. Think about other families. It's not communism. It's called, don't bust the fucking transformer assholes and leave some for others.

Rolling power blackouts were ordered across Texas early Monday morning as a winter storm and frigid temperatures gripped the state.

The rotating outages will likely last throughout Monday morning and could continue until the state's weather emergency ends, according to the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT), a major grid operator that controls about 90% of the state's electric load.

Half of America is under winter weather advisories as freezing temperatures grip the country

People may be in the dark - at least some of the time - through Tuesday, according to the Houston Office of Emergency Management.

"Power outages will likely be reoccurring throughout Monday and Tuesday. We are experiencing winter weather for which we have not experienced in decades," the office tweeted Monday.

Wall Street Journal warns Republicans: ‘Trump won’t win another election’

Half of Republicans want Trump to remain as head of their party while half of American voters want him banished from politics.

Ha ha ha ha ha

Wonder why Brownsville needs to have its own power utility? No other city in the Valley has one and they are able to get cheaper service from a variety of providers.

Brownsville, ditch BPUB!

No brainer, ese,

About that unfinished Border Wall, the one Mexico did not pay for.

So Trump claims to have built some 400 miles of fencing. Most of that was repairs, but...

I say leave the remnants up as a reminder as to what happens when the dimmest and dumbest Americans among us totally lose their minds and stupidly elect a gassy pop-culture fraud to high public office. A rusty unfinished fence in the middle of nowhere seems appropriate....

What - you're not gonna tell us what Amanda McDonald did today?

ja ja ja ja ja

Because of the power outages, pussy is 15% off for the next 24 hours.

Thank you to all the Brownsville plumbers etc that are out there trying to fix the City of Brownsville when it is freezing cold. Your fingers get numb.

No water......no rest room.

HELP !!!

Some people did collect water and covered the plants and the water pipes. Piece of cake.
The rest of us we are suffering.

So what's the rotation schedule or what? It's been more than 12 hours already.

Anonymous said...

Bruciak too busy voting himself another 100K raise for the good job he's doing. DISSOLVE THE PUB, BEN!

Abbott talks out of both sides of his mouth.
Abbott and his political friends take a shit load of political campaign money from private energy brokers then he turns around and blames them for putting Texas in a deep freeze with more consumers and less supply of electricity. PUB? Why don't the Lucios' introduce legislation to gain oversight over it?
All feeding from same trough while all over Brownsville and this state old sick people shiver in their sleep and have no oxygen for their respiratory diseases.
Que lastima!

Anonymous said...

It wasn't broken and these regulators mess it up. Total of homes and businesses without electricity in Brownsville, about 60%.

Anonymous said...

Why don't the people of Brownsville wake up and ask the commissioners what the hell has PUB done the last 10 yrs to improve our services!! So much for taking $125 million extra in the last 8yrs from rate payers on Tenaska. Past and present board members and directors at PUB are worthless to this community the ineptness and greed is a disgrace while mayors and city commissioners just watch and do nothing.

Anonymous said...

Yet the people of Brownsville are more upset that Trump didn't get impeached.

Lest you suspect that governmental ineptitude (see covid vaccines distribution) is limited to Brownsville (where it is true, we do distinguish ourselves by our unique mixture of lawlessness, criminal behavior and political ineptitude}, allow me to point out that my sister, who resides in Corpus Christi has now been without any power for 24 hours. Worse they are saying that it may be days before power is restored. Word is our new alternative energy systems still have some bugs (to put it mildly] I have seen America's Socialist future, and the future is bleak!

Anonymous said...

Were surrounded by thousands of wind turbines, yet we have no electricity. Obama still screwing us. Vote Democrat! Green energy rules, and good luck to the sissies driving Teslas!

Anonymous said...

I am too cold to write a comment. Stupid PUB!

Anonymous said...

What happened to the TENASKA Power Plant. We would've probably had power with a gas plant.

Anonymous said...

Why 36 hours without power no warning so we can prepare. Have I have an ill person whose meds went bad and all the food for 3 kids has spoiled and no gas to run around looking for food and no extra money to order food delivery. What is wrong we Brownsville not doing pre planning for emergencies. Hope the Governor gets the investigation going as to what happen with the State electricity relatability plan
