Remember the promises that then-candidate for Cameron County Sheriff (now elected sheriff) Eric Garza made on the campaign trail that – unlike incumbent Omar Lucio – compadrismo would not be tolerated in the department?
And even as he promised that he would give more and better trained jailers for the jail staff, he recently made a salary schedule amendment where he gave up four jailer's positions in exchange for his sheriff administrator position and two clerks to assist him.The sheriff administrator position was open from March 3 to March 9 (this Tuesday) and even before the application period was over, and no interviews had taken place, Cameron County District Clerk Laura Perez-Reyes was already congratulating Rick Cornejo on his new position on a Facebook post on March 9 at 2p.m, three hours before the application deadline.
The "We'll be Blue Without You" going away party was held before any other applicants were notified the position had been filled.
Were there any other applicants and did they get a fair shake?
What happened to "ending the compadrismo"?
For a candidate who hawked his administrative skills at the district clerk's office, this placement – plus that of Chief Deputy to a major financial supporter and non-TCOLE certified Robert Gracia - is making it obvious that Garza is only paying lip service to the county's personnel policies.
The Garza "compadre" got his slot at $45,726. It's who you know in Cameron County, isn't it?

After posting numerous articles and bitching about the procedures being followed by the county and city in administering the COVID-19 vaccine, local blogger has posted that he has given up on getting the vaccine because it is to "hard" to get the vaccine.
If the local blogger was an uneducated individual, one could feel sorry for him in not being able to get the vaccine. However, my neighbor's granddaughter who is sixteen years of age has gotten all her immediate family (10 members ages 40-70) vaccinated by going on line and registering them with different agencies and pharmacies.
It is easier to bitch than to put effort in getting what is needed.

A Chief's with no administrative experience and a history of bad behavior and illegal activity but the City Mananger Bernal would do anything to save a dollar and pocket anything he could steal from the Brownsville Police Officers. SO WHY NOT HIRE A CHIEF who was already known as "El Chapo" Sauceda for obvious reasons..The previous administration had attempted to hide him from the public by sticking him in the property room where there wasn't much to steal cuz it had already been inventoried.
SO the Chief must surround himself with people that blow smoke up his ass and tell him his the greatest Chief..Mean while the whole Department is collapsing around him with Officers getting hurt in record numbers due to lack of manpower on the streets, at times there maybe 4 units on each side of town under previous administration there was a minimum standard of at least 20..but to save money and look good this Chief will sacrifice anything to look good including Officer safety and safety of the community..Goodluck SO...I'm sure your New Sheriff can run circles around Chief Felix "El Chapo" Sauceda..

Remember the 138th. district court judge Arturo Nelson, Eric Garza was the one in charge of all criminal and civil documents. Seems like he, himself, has set-up a corruption plan to get all the monies owed to him for altering and creating technical errors for criminals. It's payback time for this asshole. The presiding district judge for the 138th district court is now Laura Perez Reyes. Your damn right the 138th district court handles juvenile cases, therefor Eric made these criminals seem as they were infants or very young offenders and appointed trustees who would later be granted guardian ad litem litigation and bingo make a fortune.
