Later in the day, Chief Deputy Robert Gracia (above) insisted that he is the "chief deputy of the county" (does such a position exist or is he the chief deputy of the department?) Garza will prevail in court and that it was the sheriff's constitutional duty to provide courthouse security. He said Garza would be making no statements citing the pending litigation.
