JOBS 4 LOCALS AT SPACEX: REALITY CLASHES WITH THE HYPE

Brownsville Herald quoting then-BEDC's VP Gilbert Salinas and BEDC CEO Jason Hilts:
"If constructed, the new launch site is reported to directly or indirectly create about 1,000 jobs, all paying in excess of $55,000.

Environmental Impact Statement SpaceX submitted to the FAA:
"Approximately 30 full-time SpaceX employees/contractors would be present at the vertical launch area and/or control center area in 2013...

During a launch campaign, an additional 100 local or transient workers would be working at the vertical launch area and/or control center area. During launch campaigns, the additional workers could work extended hours; however, 2 days prior to launch, full-time SpaceX employees/contractors and the local or transient workers would need to be on-site for up to 24 hours per day. Staffing on-site would return to normal levels (approximately 30 full-time SpaceX employees/contractors) within a day or two after the actual launch."

(Ed.'s Note: Obviously, Elon Musk came under false pretenses. There has never been one satellite launched from Boca Chica as promised. And the 1,000 jobs at $55,000 never materialized. Even the FAA realized that Musk was not adhering to his stated plans and was building a rocket testing site instead and required another mission statement from SpaceX.

Meanwhile, Musk basically owns Boca Chica Beach and controls access to the beach based on his needs. Now he wants to build a city for his outside engineering crews after he bought out Kopernik Shores. Meanwhile, the jobs for locals don't pay more than $12 per hour (above). And once he gets the Starship stuff right and successfully nails the landings, the rockets will be launched from Cape Canaveral, not from here. Our local officials were no match for this guy.)

The poor will always be beaten - beaten down and kept in their place.

Fact of life in Brownsville.

As thousands of migrants head to the Rio Grande Valley seeking asylum, a long-standing phenomenon in the area, politicians and personalities far and wide visit the border to offer deeply partisan perspectives. Add viral videos that blur truth and opinion, and the South Texas identity has once again fallen prey to a national narrative.

AND THE LOCAL ELECTED POLITICIANS HERE DO NOTHING TO STOP ALL THESE FALSE ACCUSATIONS AND UNTRUTHS ABOUT THE RGV.
NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT AN ELECTION IS NEAR AND THE CITIZENS NEED TO MAKE A CHANGE "DO NOT RE-ELECT" THESE BOZOS AGAIN MAKE A CHANGE DO IT NOW...

Promises have come cheapy for Brownsville politicians. It is a winning strategy, one delivered without regard for accomplishing. Look at Ben Neece, the "rocker" city commissioner. Downtown still looks as bad as the day he was elected. Same for the mayor, a Mexican so over his head that to say he was unqualified would be to be kind.

Never mind the potholes or the missing bus shelters or the street flooding; the biggest sin Brownsville's leaders have committed is perpetuation of the "do-nothing" philosophy.

$12 an hour sounds damned good for Brownsville! Why the criticism?

Most people here are uneducated and are damned lucky to even be here in the USA. Most would be happy with $7 an hour.

Believe it!

White Republicans are scared shitless of being the "minority" in America. They are willing to destroy Democracy to stay in power.

Time is not with them.

Remember, SpaceX jobs were going to start at $70,000 a year. Good chance my math is off but I'm thinking that is $36.45 an hour for a 40 hour work week, a long shot from what Musk and the county wanted us to believe would be the prevailing wage. Of course, if you gave it a minutes thought you knew that most of the work was going to be sub-contracted and that meant minimum wage or maybe a little better and that is what we are now seeing. No surprise. Musk, Salinas and his county pals lied to us by omission, again. And that will not be the last time (well, maybe for Salinas, didn't he git the boot?). They are stealing our beach and in return a relative few of us get a chicken shit hourly wage.

Se los periquio y chingo bien bule el Musk. Fake promises and stole our beach. They should've made some kind of written contract that guaranteed all those false promises by a certain time frame.

This is UNBELIVABLE and I can bet all those working there are related to one or another commissioner (city or county) or close friends. So who in reality benefits? No citizens just them...
THEY NEED TO BE VOTED OUT NOW, DO NOT RE-ELECT ANY OF THEM...

In pedestrian Brownsville and Cameron County, election is a monetary windfall - sooner or later.

It's a shame when politicians get all blind-sided when they see a rich investor coming to our area. Elon Mush promised so much, but we were never meant to be the big-time launching base. You let him take the beach, bought out people's properties and not giving them a fair price. We are Musk's petri dish for experiments only.

The money Musk will invest in our city will go to the corrupt elected and appointed fat cat politicians.

Scraps is what we are getting! Shocker! Not!

Nobody is fuking going to Mars and especially have people living there. El mamon Musk knows that, it's all about optics and making tons of money. Too bad Brownsville will pay dearly for making a deal with the devil! Our beach wildlife will suffer. You can thank Tony Martinez and Judge Casco for that!

SpaceX has turned Boca Chica into a private blast zone. Elon took advantage of a bunch of greedy, corrupt and stupid Mexicans.

Where’s Emma Perez Trevino when we need her. She brought down the nefarious doings with the port of Brownsville and the Solomon Ortiz connection with the .... fills in the blanks. She was always on old ass Lucio and his ilk, milking the system for 20+ Years. Seems like the MSM doesn’t really care about reporting the truth anymore. Remember that Space X is not a publicly traded company and Elon can use FU money to dominate the market and kiddos to him for playing the system, I’d invest in an IPO.
IMHO , we should ask for more. I’d rather have SpaceX along with education and generation of science and tourism, rather than LNG.

Maybe Elon knows more and can forecast our destiny better than our current leaders. Anyway, there is hope for our community if we all keep our culture intact and don’t fall into the narrative that’s being pushed constantly by ...... fill in the blanks.

Sure do miss the black fedora..... she instilled fear in every local politician.

we don't have many fedora wearers here. Its a west coast neckbeard thing.
