Matamoros.- When Evaristo Cruz Sánchez “The Cowboy”The leader of the Gulf Cartel (CDG), was arrested this Tuesday by officers of the army in the state of Nuevo León, it was revealed that he has received protection from the mayor of Matamoros, the Morenista Mario López Hernández, by keeping him on the payroll of the city government through the local secretariat of public safety.
“El Vaquero” received a gross monthly salary of $10,119 pesos, but in addition he had all the protection and immunity offered to community officials by having an official public security ID card.
According to National transparency platform“El Vaquero”; was accepted as a municipal security guard by the government of Mario “La Borrega” López and approved on January 1, 2018.
On several occasions the attempted arrest of “El Vaquero” in Matamoros provoked the mobilization of the local public safety authorities, in particular the Ministry of Transport, to block roads in order to stymie the arrest of the CDG leader.
“El Vaquero” appeared as one of the most wanted criminals in the Tamaulipas government for several months.
A reward of up to 2 million pesos hhe ad been offered by the prosecutor to determine his whereabouts and subsequent arrest, jointly by US authorities as he was a primary target of the security and prosperity campaign of the Nuevo Leon government and state administration of Tamaulipas.

As news of the cozy relationship between the cartel leader and the Matamoros mayor hit the newspapers, some local officials wonder whether the revelations will adversely affect the Brownsville-Matamoros relationship.
So far, no statements have been made on the issue by local officials, particularly the chief of the Brownsville Police Department or other officials. The photo at left of Lopez and Brownsville Mayor JUan "Trey" Mendez was taken during Charro Days when they had a private lunch at the posh La Cancilleria restaurant.
A later meeting followed where they attempted to meet with the new U.S. Consul in Matamoros.

Really Montoya, affect relations? Come on man, Brownsville has crooks in every orifice of this city including BISD and PUB! And is it really a surprise that Matamoros OR for that matter, Mexico has crooks on the payroll? Its Mexico, they're use to stealing from each other and paying others to get away with everything! If the USA wasn't so dumb in sending money to Mexico and maybe directly to citizens, they wouldn't be trampling over one another illegally entering our country? Sure miss the "tweets" nowadays!
Oye Montoya, do the citizens of Harlingen a favor and contact that fat POS, Richard Uribe that he's nobody and being a city commissioner in Harlingen doesn't mean shit! This fat slob walks into businesses acting like everyone is supposed to bend over or kiss his fat ass! I was in a local bank when this fat POS walked in and withdrawn some money. The teller asked for his ID and the fat POS goes off on the poor guy. The teller tells him that he has never waited on him and the fat POS yells across the lobby for another employee to tell him who he was. You need to tell that fat POS to pay his bad checks from the restaurants he' opened and faltered on with renters. Let' see how long he stays at his current location? I'm willing to bet that he leaves that owner holding the bag on rent!
