THE MUSK OF OZ WELCOMES YOU TO MUNCHKINLAND

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

Why call out names when it's the same names over and over?

This town looks like the Amazon rain forest banks with most residential and city streets as the brush piles up. If there had been some average thought (right!) and anticipation immediately after the brutal freeze, the month of March would have accounted for the need from Feb. storms to double pickup of brush.

Drive through this town other than N. Brownsville and it's absolutely blighted. Please don't try to argue that otherwise. Please. Clean up the goddamned town now. You're in the news now! Clean it up now....

Let me repeat there will never be an effectual leader in this town without the right backbone, intellectual capacity, and successful track record. Look no further at the city of McAllen mayoral candidates(top three Brand, Falleck, Hinojosa) who any of those could and will step in and lead a city with a purposeful and cogent model for success.

It's not that there are not hidden gems in this city, they just realize it's a effort in futility to spend and waste the majority of their time fighting the entrenched poisonous vines instead of moving the city forward with a clear path for doing so. What do they say? You can't fight city hall(never truer words spoken).

Why do think Elon Musk made the VERY public pronouncement on social media--"Am donating $20 million to Cameron County schools & $10 million to City of Brownsville for downtown revitalization. Details to follow next week" instead of just a local announcement here in the valley with local accolades?

Interesting timing on the morning of Spacex rocket explosion that donation announcement was made immediately same day. Coincidence? I think not. Buying Brownsville/Cameron acquiescence comes cheap. Thirty million is like you and I giving 30 cents. The fallout from that explosion left a trail for miles, not to mention the noxious gases for much great distance.

Immediately little mayor was on Fox news grinning about how great it is for the city.

The money will be gone and squandered. Of FAR greater significance, will be that loud and strong pronouncement of giving to "city of Brownsville" downtown that has already drawn interest across the nation. That is the news and the positive, not the money that will be wasted – guaranteed.

The opportunity is because of this and not because of Brownsville doing anything substantive. Ride the wave, don't squander it. Get out of your own way Brownsville. Bring in all the top tier real estate brokers across the valley and promote nationally. NOW!

Don't know if writer of the above screed is from Brownsville (doesn't seem like one of the Proud Pachucos), but he's on the mark about the city's blight. How city leaders like Ben Neece (commissioner of downtown district) can live with such a backdrop is criminal. How Mayor Mendez insists on seeing it and leaving it is a wonderment.

Brownsville has natural beauty so ignored by the community that it may as well be San Benito, perhaps the valley's dustiest, dirtiest town.

Neece has no answers for why Downtown continues to rot.

Maybe they like living in a pigsty. The smell of defeat is all-consuming in town. Pobre gente. Viven como puercos!

Ya con el peste!!!!

I really like how the revitalization project for the downtown area was able to shit out a new bar, a deli shop, a pizza spot in the record time. The time frame they set out to achieve these great strides in progress is a wonderful outlook for the future. I can not wait to see what they roll out. Can we have another Crossroad festival? Can I have the chance to meet R.J. Mitte? These are the things that really accentuate what Brownsville needs.

Perhaps a solution

The city trucks could offer to shred the brush on the property itself to be used as mulch for trees and gardens. Trucks wouldn't be backlogged going back and forth, and the plant waste could serve a useful purpose.

Forgot they now have a police station downtown to cater to the new bars and that pizza joint all with reserved parking and of course cameras at a cost of close to a million. Want more re-elect them again... wonder what they have in their conniving little minds?
