Both chairs of the Cameron County Republican and Democratic parties have condemned the hate-filled mailer sent to city voters against District 3 commissioner candidate Roy de los Santos in his runoff race against Jessica Puente-Bradshaw.

Cisneros-Graham condemned the mailer for being a "bigoted, hateful, and unethical" advertisement. The fake PAC – Concerned Conservatives of Brownsville – is not registered with the Texas Secretary of State, a felony.

Puente-Bradshaw, who has draped herself in the mantle of "family values" – a pointed remark to refer to De los Santos' role as an LGBTQ advocate and member of a city task force for equality – has disingenuously distanced herself from the vicious attack saying it did not come from her or her manager. But just like a leopard can't change his spots, neither can a snake deny its poison.
Some of the poison emanating from her lair accuses De Los Santos of exposing children to transvestites at the Central Library and urges local voters to "defend conservative values" he is allegedly trying to destroy. That mirrors Bradshaw's campaign appeal to a "T" and no denial can hide the fact that it's her trademark attack: Smear the opponent and then hide your hand.
(We refuse to publish the mailer here and help to spread Bradshaw's hate and vitriol to our seven readers.)
Now is the time for city and county commissioners and all elected officials to denounce these vicious tactics. Leave politics aside and form a united front against this evil. To remain quiet amounts to becoming an accomplice to this bigotry and intolerance that has no place in the public dialogue.
De los Santos, in contrast, has stated in response to the hate-filled mailer that:
"I am frequently asked as part of the campaign how one person can make a difference if everyone is so divided and the approval of a majority is needed to get anything passed?
"Today is a perfect example of how people can come together despite differences to stand up for what’s right. At our core the vast majority of us are decent human beings. Despite differences of opinion and ideology, there are some fundamentals which decent human beings and good Americans don’t shy away from; standing up for right vs. wrong, truth vs. lies, love vs. hate. "Today we see conservatives and liberals, the left and the right, and almost everyone in between standing together, united against hate, divisiveness, unethical practices, intolerance and bigotry. This is proof positive that people in this community can come together despite differences to stand for what’s right.
"This is a day of hope, let this inspire us to exercise our right to vote and to say with one voice that we want this type of unity for what’s right to continue with the city commission for a better Brownsville!!

Why does the BPD Chief allows male patrol officers with long hair while in uniform? These police officers look like hippies instead of law enforcement officers. I strongly oppose this type of derailing in political campaigns. I am also, strongly opposed to the idea that this may be an attack on the LBGTQ community to gain a advantage in this race.
Sadly, this is done to all candidates running for various positions. Not only does this happen locally, this happens everywhere .No matter who are or what you believe in, there will always be this a campaign smear aiming to take you down. Do not let this bring us down. It should make you stronger, creating a more enthusiastic rivet to win despite this under the belt attack.
Inciting that one party may have done it to the other is already creating a divide without evidence. This is not the way to create peace.
