Vice President Kamala Harris was on her way to Guatemala on her first overseas trip since taking office. She is spearheading the Biden administration's diplomatic efforts to address the root causes of migration from Central America. AF2 was seen at the airport at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
It's her first official trip abroad. She arrived in the capital yesterday evening. Today she is expected to announce new plans to address drug and human trafficking, as well as corruption, which have been identified as major drivers of migration to the US.
Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei has pointed out that he and Harris have one thing in common, that she doesn't hold back, and she is frank.
"We are in agreement in the what, which is something," Giammattei said. "We are not in agreement in the how."
Giammattei says a root cause of undocumented immigration from his country is the economy. And that in some cases, the root cause of immigration is literally the roots that can no longer grow."
While in Guatemala, Harris was criticized for telling Guatemalans not to hazard the trip across Mexico and not to come to the United States.

We should be more concerned that no airlines want to fly into a brand new airport. One new airline chose McAllen and VivaAerobus went to Harlingen. That says a lot about doing business in Browntown.

People in Mexico and Guatemala are aware that their leaders are corrupt. They do not see the USA as a friend. The words from Vice President Harris were new because it opened their eyes to their corruption and abuses from their elected leaders. That is where the change is: do not steal from the poor, give them good jobs, give them a chance to live a dignified life in their own country.
