The two members of the Brownsville Public Utility Board who served the unexpired term of two former city commission -appointees are up for renewal after they were appointed two years ago on July 2019.
Both Timothy Lopez and Sandra Saenz have requested they be reappointed to a full four-year term today.
Lopez was appointed by Mayor Trey Mendez and Sandra A. Saenz was appointed by District 1 Commissioner Nurith Galonsky.
Since they are seeking reappointment, it is almost a given that they will stay on the BPUB.
Brownsville residents will probably ask what ever happened to the $150 million the PUB received in the form of utility rate hikes for the planned construction of the $500 million Tenaska gas-fired electric generating plant. The plan to build it was abandoned, but the rates never came down.
And who will answer for the February freeze where the PUB sold its electricity to the ERCOT electric grid while Brownsville homes were left without power for as long as three days suffering below-freezing temperatures with out heat or power?
Neither Lopez nor Saenz made a peep throughout all those debacles. In that sense, they are "safe" appointees.
Same old, same old. PUB administrators makes the mistakes, PUB board members and the city commission give them their blessing, and residents foot the bill.

By now we have found out that Nurith Galonsky was never interested in bringing change to Southmost. Neither did Ricardo Longoria,but Ricardo just wanted to make money from DJ and other side buisness's. Nurith, her dad, her dads partners, her cousins and uncles are out to make millions off the Brownsville Tax Payers. She is smart educated and formed an alliance with Trey Mendez, Ben Neece, John Cowen and now she will reach out to Rose Gowen to get what she needs before the next electioin. She has made a lot of enemies. She thinks because she posts pictures of streets being paved and pictures of her eating tacos at Southmost, that the people are stupid. The streets were already in line to get paved. The Southmost had tacos before she was elected. Are you saying Nurith that you never ate at Southmost before you were a commissioner? Are you saying you that you wouldn't do what it takes to get elected or what you want? Just ask Jerry McHale. He offered you help in his blog as long as you spread your legs and got on your knees and that took you about 3 days to give in to him. What a disgrace you are to women. How are you going to tell teenage girls to act if they don't get what they want? What will be your advise. Just let old dirty men touch you adn sleep with you as long as you get what you want?
