Is it something in the water coolers over at the delinquent tax collector Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP's Harlingen and San Benito offices?

Over the past few years we have noticed that some of their full-time ad part-time female employees have run afoul of the law. 

The latest one – and it took some time to surface from the Harlingen Police Department files – is none other than Harlingen Tax Assessor Collector Aurora Lozano. As such, she collects taxes for the City of Harlingen, Harlingen Independent School District, Rio Hondo and Los Fresnos.

Lozano, while a city employee for ad valorem (property) taxes, is also employed by Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson as a delinquent tax collector. This, of course, gives rise to questions related to potential conflict of interest issues. 

But Harlingen Police Department records show that officers responded to a call from her home June 15 at about 10:04 p.m. where they arrested Lozano and charged her with Assault, Family Violence "A" and Criminal Mischief "B". The charges allegedly stem from a disagreement and confrontation which turned physical on her husband.

Records indicate that she posted a $1,000 cash surety bond on both charges.

And just a few years ago, the San Benito Police Department also announced the arrest of another Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson lass, one Monica Solis. On Dec. 30, 2013, the San Benito woman is facing criminal charges after she allegedly harassed her estranged husband a man through a series of unwanted text messages.

San Benito police arrested Solis on a harassment by phone charge. Investigators told a local broadcaster  that officers were called out to the 400 block of White Wing Street around 7:15 p.m. and that a man named Juan Alvarado, who is legally separated from Solis, said the woman kept sending him unwanted text messages to his cell phone.

The man told her stop but she continued sending messages. When officers arrived they reported Solis was uncooperative and arrested her at the scene after she turned over a jar full of knives she had in her possession.

Solis  was given a $2,500 bond. Harassment by phone is a Class B misdemeanor, a crime punishable up to six months in jail and a $2,000 fine.
