In protest of these attacks on voting rights, a majority of Democrats in the Texas House left for Washington, D.C., denying Republicans the quorum needed to pass new voting restrictions in a special legislative session called largely for that purpose. The absent Democrats mean there will not be enough members present to conduct business under House rules.
But this threat to our freedom to vote isn’t just in Texas, and Texas lawmakers arrived in D.C. to make that point clear to Congress.
With the threat of Texas’ efforts to further restrict voting looming, the Texas Democrats will continue pleading with Congress to act on restoring federal protections for voters of color. Their plea is our plea: Congress must pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act in order to ensure voting rights for all Americans.
Across the country, our freedom to vote is currently under attack -- 389 voter suppression bills have been introduced in 48 states this year. GOP politicians are working overtime to ensure voters are disenfranchised.
That is why we support Texas Dems and must join with them in demanding Congress pass protections for our freedom to vote. We will not tolerate continued attacks on our Constitutional rights!

This article is full of crap! This is about election integrity. As a Hispanic, I don’t feel “disenfranchised” by this bill. This is all a ploy for the Democrats to keep power. If you want to be a real blogger, stop reporting your one sided views and instead report on the facts. As far as Dominguez goes, wouldn’t it be nice for us normal people just to get up and fly to Washington D.C.? What a P.O.S. he is!
Republicans may be gloating, but this is a win for Democrats. The legislation is flawed in that it favors one side (i.e. one segment of the state's population).
It should be opposed.

This so called Texas threat to our freedom to vote is a threat to our corrupt lawmakers in Texas. They will no longer be able to set-up and control the vote, because it the voter ID requirement that will hurt them. These so called Tex. Democrats lawmakers who abandon their jobs to attend this event must be desperate, must have had to show some type of PHOTO ID to be able to board a flight. Yet, they don't want PHOTO ID as requirement to vote. These so called local Texas lawmakers claiming the legislation will drastically harm voters of color, yet they are the very same who are allowing the rat-infected slaves owners' house to be honored.
When I was enlisted in the military, anyone who RAN was known as a COWARD...are you listening DEMORATAS??!

The vast majority of the Valley people who put these people into office are greatly disappointed in them. Sure, there are some ideological Dems who will support them, but they are a small number.

If people are prevented from voting as the Democrats say then why don't they interview one person that has not been allowed to vote. JUST ONE. They can't do it. They just say it but nobody comes forward. C'mon CNN find that ONE person that has been denied the right to vote and interview him. You can't do it because he DOESN'T exist.

Give me one example of the actual law that stops somebody from voting. You can't.repeating something over and over does not make it true
Ask any of those idiots why the bill is voter suppression and have them give you an example. Oh I have to show my ID to get a motel room buy a plane ticket get my pills on and on and on.
Why are all opinions concentrating on ID? THAT IS NOT the only issue on the voting bill. Texas has had photo ID requirement for AGES.
Could it be because that is the only thing they can argue? When current majority gets questioned on not having armed observers intimidating voters, people questioning your vote, restrictions in voting hrs, etc.
By the way, if democrats get arrested when they set foot on the state, democrats go to jail or to the capitol? Republicans still DONT HAVE quorum because they will still not be in the house.
