TEXAS COUNCIL NAMES ALEX DOMINGUEZ "CHAMPION"

Alex Dominguez, Cameron County Commissioner said on Dec. 2017, “Having a playground where they can enjoy the outdoors and playing with their friends and family members means the world to me. This is one of the most important projects we’ve done at the county.”

This will be the first park of its kind in the County parks system. In addition to the new playground, community members plan to donate resources towards the construction of ADA compliant restrooms."

AUSTIN-- Last week, The Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) recognized Representative Alex Dominguez as a TCDD Legislative Champion. Representative Dominguez was selected for his work to improve equity across the state addressing disability-related issues during the 87th Texas Legislature.

"Thank you to the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities for this recognition. I am proud of all of the contributions my colleagues and I made to create a more inclusive, safe, accessible, and equitable Texas for all," said Dominguez. "Texas is stronger when every Texan is able to fully participate in our society and I applaud the work of TCDD to make that a reality."

Rep. Alex Dominguez authored proposals to increase accessibility throughout Texas. House Bill 24 would have provided funding for an inclusive and accessible playground in each of the state's independent school districts. He also carried a measure to better enforce accessible parking violations and modified the bill to better align with constituent recommendations. 

Additionally, Dominguez was the House sponsor of Senate Bill 776, a new law which requires the University Scholastic League to create an adaptive sports program.

TCDD honors Legislative Champions for their efforts to improve inclusion, remove barriers, and promote an increased quality of life for Texans with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Since 2019, the Council has recognized Legislative Champions to celebrate outstanding leadership and progress on issues that matter to people with IDD and their families.
