AFTER MILLIONS $$$ IN ROAD REPAIRS, STRANDED AGAIN: OVERPAID CITY MANAGER, CHIEF OF POLICE NOWHERE

(Ed.'s Note: Former City of Brownsville Mayor Henry Gonzalez was fond of saying that every time we have dog peeing near Four Corners, it would flood. Well, despite pouring millions to put a sidewalk down Highway 4 (Boca Chica) guess what? It still floods. Take a gander at the cars stranded after last night's downpour on Ruben Torres. There was no traffic control, no barricades, no nothing, to warn motorists of the hazards of driving in a flood area.

The photos were taken this this morning on Ruben Torres Blvd. (AKA FM 802) where millions have been poured by the Texas Department of Transportation to...put a sidewalk down the middle of the road. What happened to basic stuff like good drainage and traffic control? Motorists who didn't stall had to navigate around stalled cars and high water to return on the road, sometimes even having to drive against the traffic.
The rosy-fingered dawn broke like this on Lake Ruben Torres. A female police officer, when asked about the lack of police on the thoroughfare, said "Call the city manager and chief of police and tell them we need more officers."

This performance by Noel Bernal and Chief of Police Felix Sauceda is abysmal, according to ex-DA investigator George Gavito who sent us photos of the debacle. A city commissioner told Gavito he had called Sauceda at 7 a.m. to ask for help wit the problem, and nada, zilch. This is what we get for the headaches and frustration stretching over a year while the TxDOT contractors labored over the construction of this thoroughfare? The road improvements, we were told, would help with the "flow of traffic." Really?

This morning, at about 11 a.m., cars still blocked the road and still no cops, no traffic control, or assistance to help the owners of the stalled cars. The car above (white SUV) had already been struck. It will take thousands of dollars for the car owners to repair the damage resulting from this major fuck-up. In contrast, ancient, two-lane Coffee Port Road just a click south of 802 did not flood. Is this any way to run a farm road?)

Traffic control left when Traffic Director Robert Esparza left the city!

8.03 inches in what, 8 or 10 hours? There are not many drainage systems that can handle that but, you are right, there should have been barriers for people to drive around. Still, people shouldn't need signs telling them not to be stupid.

Anonymous said...

It's happening because the dept at the city who handles rain water drainage are not doing there jobs.Somebody starting with the city manager should be fired I have spoken to them on several occasions on the lack of priority on draining the resacas. I'm ready to go to city hall and tear somebody's door down these resacas were full near Hanna before this rain came in and the city never turned the pumps on to drain resacas. Resacas were created to help with flooding in first place and wth happened to the dredging program for these resacas. We want answers Now.

What a sad state of distress this city is in, while leaders laugh all the way to the bank!

it is a good thing they cleaned house of all the horrible horrible employees at the public works department

All those people who sit in their cars with the ignition turned on while they take a nap, make phone calls, leave junior in the backseat, and check their Facebook are responsible for the global warming causing these torrential downpours. Stop complaining and start doing something about your selfish conduct.

Shame on Brownsville political leaders, community leaders, and city leaders.

People were stranded for hours, cars were lost, children were inside cars, nobody came to help.

Anonymous said...

Gavito is right, no leadership, planning, or concern from city manager or PD Chief. GOD help us when a level 2 or above hurricane hits Brownsville. This storm event has exposed that city commission must act and hold these people accountable for the anarchy reflected in the pictures.

The water on Boca Chica covered the "traffic control sidewalk in the middle of the road" and cars slammed into it. Wonder if any oil pans have a leak or transmission messed up. Send the bill to the city.

Oh, but Adams Street is paved nice and pretty because Trey owns half of the properties on Adams that he is buying off old viejitas who owe back taxes.

Where is our DA who showed up to let them know "you are being watched." Enough watching, vato, get to issuing warrants, arrests and indictments that are not sealed.

Brownsville is, was and always will be a shithole.

Anonymous said...

It was horrendous driving thru it last night. Couldn't see the stalled cars a rig driving the wrong way to avoid them. People walking in the water after abandoning their cars. I'm surprised no one got killed.

Anonymous said...

No mames Montoya! I don't think too highly of the chief of police, but does he own a tow truck or something? Why do you or that Gavito guy want the chief of police, did he tell all those drivers to keep driving in the flooded areas? Maybe you want the chief to water your lawn too?

This drainage problem is not only bad it's sad. Someone who has time and wants to make a difference should start a petition for our city leaders to take action on this issue. Our city leaders should take note that we have been lucky that the drains some what still work. Mayor Mendez should work on protecting the value of all that real estate he has been buying. We have potholes because of the drainage issue.

Chief Felix Sauceda and The Brownsville Police Department would like to thank you for patients while Chief Sauceda was baking cookies 🍪 for the US Border Patrol!

The Brownsville Police Chief Felix El Chapo Sauceda-Bernal has promised the City Manager El Rata Bernal that he would cut cost so they both could attempt to get pay raises..sad but true..so what does that mean for the citizens of Brownsville no manpower out on the streets. CHIEF SAUCEDA-BERNAL and COMMANDER No Balls Dietrich have threatened his patrol division Supervisors to work with "what you have" as per Chief Felix Sauceda!

CHIEF FELIX SAUCEDA'S Incompetent leadership continues to shine!
CHIEF SAUCEDA WITH LAWSUIT MOUNTING AND NOW LAWSUITS COMING FROM WITHIN AS Chief Sauceda has now injured several Officers they were all injured at the shooting range as Chief Sauceda has ordered Officers to shoot and exchange gunfire from vehicles.
Sauceda claims to have read a book on gun fighting and Now is an expert on the matter!
One Officer was even shot in the arm during the UNSAFE DRILLS while others were taken to the ER with fragments that had to be removed..
All Officers have been blamed for their own injuries as Sauceda and his incompetent staff continue on their dismal leadership..

The citizens of Brownsville continue to get horrible service from the Brownsville Police Department you can't even get someone to answer the phone in dispatch. Durin the rain storm i also stopped a Patrol officer on the streets and was also told by the Officer that they don't even have enough Officers to answer regular calls for service because they are so short handed. I was also told that have Patrol Officers that have to work as dispatchers because they don't want to hire dispatchers on overtime...wtf is happening to the City Of Brownsville???

Anonymous said...

Yes abandoned cars all over the road!!! You had to maneuver your way around all the stranded cars..we called the police station several times..we were told that they would take care of the matter when that had enough Officers and right now that was not a priority..wtf

Anonymous said...

Time to part ways with the City Manager and Brownsville Police Chief Felix Sauceda!

Anonymous said...

Chef Felix Sauceda plans to bake some goodies for the City Commissioners for all their HARD Work!!! You go Chef Sauceda!

Folks there you have it, Brownsville wanted a minor league player like bernal (aka former La Villa tiny weenee city CM) to run this big show, think he bit off more than he can chew and it shows. City mayor and Commission must be blind not to see it. Anyway and the band plays on, Agantense cabrones.

Brownsville Police only have one Lieutenant on the whole Department with a pair of Balls, all others will bend over backwards and take it up that a**!
They have a Lieutenant in dispatch that has made nothing but a mess. NO ONE will work for the guy..Half the time they have to get two or three patrolman to work dispatch because the Lieutenant in charge can't keep his employees cuz he is an ASS****!
Only two channels are in use at one time and if they have to use the RR they switch everything to one channel. Never has dispatch been in such a mess!
Terrible management by Chief Felix Sauceda.
Just read his PD post as he has to remind the citizens of Brownsville that he is the Chief of the Department!
Terrible Leadership, the guy can't even name a new Commander! Because he only has one competent Lieutenant that could do the job but would outshine this incompetent Chief..

Anonymous said...

What do you expect from a incompetent Chief of Police Felix Sauceda!
When you have Lieutenant and a patrol Officers assigned full time to the to the gym??? And same female Officer who was caught using a City vehicle to take her family to Austin...has female Officers working from home some Officers assigned to dispatch. Took all female Officers off Patrol and gave them a 3day all expenses paid trip to the island complements of the City of Brownsville..While leaving patrol short handed..
Chief Sauceda having several Officers injured at the shooting range and one officer was even shot in the arm..All paid injuries by the City of Brownsville while leaving patrol short-handed as they are placed on injury leave.
The City of Brownsville must enjoy giving away money as lawsuits mount against Chief Sauceda and the Brownsville Police Department.
Terrible mismanagement by Chief Felix Sauceda.

Apparently, this is not a Brownsville problem but a VALLEY problem. When the storm was just a couple of hours long, FB had posts from Mcallen, San Juan, Edinburg and Harlingen with severe flooding problems. Brownsville, Boca Chica, of course!!
WHO is the engineer, brain or money grabber who decided to put those middle blocks on Boca Chica and Ruben Torres? Just asking. Remember when we had the little islands on Elizabeth street? They had to be removed (at a cost, of course). You don't need to be a rocket scientist to know that good drainage, clean streets help more than "decorative" areas to show off. Ah, just wait for the new taxes this month. Same properties, double amounts; and Boca Chica still floods, and Brownsville residents still DONT KNOW how to drive our bad streets, and cops always get to the problem AFTER the fact.

The racist republican governor will not sign it, no te hagas pendejo you just want to be re-elected you don't give a shit about the county just like the other enano idiotas...

Anonymous said...

To any person with common sense, do you need a sign to tell you that you should not drive into a flooded area? Do we need a sign or a cop to tell you to not drive into the flooded area? Gavito is nothing but a has been.
By the way, be sure to turn off your computer when you done with it, or should the City send you a sign or a street cone to remind you to turn off your computer?

Mr montoya please post my plea as it is extremely important. Mr mayor and city manager, i demand the following: hire a fortune teller as forecasters got it all wrong and failed to tell us how much it was going to rain. Please hire one cop per resident so that any time we call, we will instantly have someone at our doorstep. Oh and buy each one of them a monster truck so they can rescue every stranded motorist. Please add 100 barricades in each truck because people need to be reminded not to drive through flooded streets. Lastly I ask that you go by Chinatown so you all can discover the secret of the Mogwai. Remember  the gremlins would get wet they would multiply!  It will be a secret that can only be used by the mayor, city manager, and the police chief. Once it starts to rain we can expose all three to water. Once you all multiply, we can make sure that we have one of you at each intersection to make sure no one drives into flooded streets, at the same time the rest of you can answer everyones telephone calls, turn on water pumps, pull cars out of the water and everything else the citizens demand!  You have been warned or Bobby Cervantes will sue you. Thank you Mr. Montoya!

The City of Brownsville simply needs to benchmark some priorities with a zero tolerance policy for failing to address them.

1. Drainage, use the resacas, use more and larger designs for drainage, use your HEADS (the big ones on your shoulder that don't seem to work well here in Brownsville).

2. No program designed to draw tourists or beautify the City or contribute to the damn bike trails should receive a penny until adequate drainage is provided. This ain't rocket science people!!!!

3. Quit blaming citizens for having the temerity to venture onto our roads when it rains as though that somehow justifies failures in City management and Engineering. Only in Brownsville would someone suggest that it is somehow people's fault that their leaders are self-serving, money grubbing leeches who make no real attempt to address infrastructure problems. Ironically, these people did elect them and in that sense this claim makes a bit more sense.

4. No new initiatives until the remedies to ancient problems are found, implemented, and fully funded no matter whose nonsensical hobby horses must stop (bike trails???!!!!).

5. Why beautify downtown when no one can reach it if it rains? One picture of our flooded roads is enough to erase every bit of touristy propaganda bought and paid for by our so called leadership!!

6. Instead of pursuing "alignment" and other chimeras in City Management, lets get some people less fond of meetings and more fond of constructive solutions to real problems. If they persist in pursuing "alignment," perhaps they could start with the many cars that need new alignment after enduring the abuse they suffer as a consequence of potholes, road debris, submerged road hazards, and other such nonsense that make our roads resemble the beaches of Hitler's Fortress Europe (Normandy Beach) more than anything else.

Attention Citizens of Brownsville;..The Brownsville Police Department and Chief of Police Felix El Chapo Sauceda-Bernal is more concerned about finding out who is talking behind his back then he is about putting Officers out on the streets..He even has gone as far as put out a NEW POLICY which basically says if you use your personal phone on duty or even contact someone who is off duty and its work related He has the right to seize your phone for review...(we will post the Policy soon)...All Policies have been AUTHORIZED by The City Manager Noe Bernal and the CITY Commissioners...
CHIEF SAUCEDA-Bernal is now buying everyone at The Police Department a new Cellphone Compliments of the taxpayers of the City of Brownsville...Anything to try to catch these bandits...instead of using the money on Officers out in the streets..Oh well thats why Brownsville was named the number #1 unsafe City in South Texas to drive in...Go..Go...Go..Chief Sauceda-Bernal...

Well if the dumb ass Police Chief Felix Sauceda had a 100 officers on the street they could have blocked off roadways letting motorist know to turn around but when you have 10 patrolman for the City wtf can you do...sad but true the next day when the water drained the cars still littered the Roadway because with only 6 patrolman on the morning shift what can you do..When you ask the Patrol Commander about the manpower shortage its the same story "the numbers don't support more manpower...yet they can never produce these numbers.
CHIEF FELIX Sauceda has let the City Manager run the Department because he has no clue how to manage the Department.
The City manager is trying to suck as much money from the City as he can before the catch on to his ineffective leadership.
