As if the dispensing of hundreds of thousands of dollars of taxpayer money to Mayor Trey Mendez to fix up his downtown building purchases is not enough, the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC)) Michael Limas is now associated with another Brownsville firestorm.
Limas, in addition to his service at the BCIC, is also a financial planner associated with Equitable.
Recently, without consultation with the City Commission or informing the employees involved, City Manager Noel Bernal transferred the city's retirement system from Nationwide to Equitable, Limas's company.
Employees WERE NOT NOTIFIED and are angry.
Perhaps, this is yet another BCIC-connected matter that will draw the attention of District Attorney Luis Saenz.
Perhaps, also, the City Commission should have a discussion with Bernal about the chain of command.

Bernal thinks and acts as if he is the Messiah. Someone needs to set him straight and throw the key away, but I doubt that our illustrious DA will do anything about it. What is wrong with this picture? What has happened to respect, honor and dignity?
Brownsville is the laughing stock of the valley and why it makes it so hard to decide how to vote, especially now that they are seeking our vote to build another million-dollar project arena. Who has his/her scoop into this ice cream cart? Joey Lopez, Eddie Trevino, David Garza. Sofia needs to make sure to become our watchdog and whistleblower.
That Bernal guy sounds like the Enano City Manager of San Benito. Does what he wants when he wants no questions asked. What is sad is that the elected officials turn a blind eye to all this and are not protecting the citizens that elected them.
Very true! Bernal switched Nationwide which had been servicing city employees pension plans for decades to Equitable without informing anyone affected by the change. Another great example of "Total Alignment" Totally pathetic.
the limas name is synonymous with corruption, apple does not fall far from the tree it seems!!! Poor michael thought he was greasing his way up the ladder. Little did he know that he is part of a racketeering criminal enterprise. Go figure and his brother is an attorney, LOL. WE WANT HEADS TO ROLL IN THE CITY OF BROWNSVILLE, NO MORE STEALING MONIES !!!
BANKRUPTCY....
A crook always thinks he can steal when he is in charge of what he thinks to be Free money. From there he will claim 20% consultation fee. 20% attorney fee, 20% operations fee, 20% salary for family staff, 20% loss.
Hire more little self-serving town bullies that don't follow orders, protocol, rules, regulations and DA LAW of course...
