(Ed.'s Note: After the Guardian's inaptly named "Eco Dev Initiatives" and the Brownsville Herald's vapid coverage of the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) one of our seven readers suggested that the the headline should have been "Mayor Trey Mendez and Ramiro Gonzalez's Self-Serving Economic Development Initiatives."
They also didn't say anything about the fact that BCIC board member Michael Limas also abstained from voting on a $160,000 grant request because he and the applicant had agreed that he would rent the space next to his Las Ramblas bar downtown.
Isn't it newsworthy that Cameron County District Attorney – who had heard of the requests through social media reports – showed up to witness the votes before the mayor and Gonzalez's request was removed from the agenda. Who's is the Herald trying to protect? Obviously, not the public interest. Is slanted news coverage good news?)

I’m not surprised that our local news paper turns a blind eye when we need journalist to investigate and ask the right questions. No need to worry these guys are tricky they’ll find a way to make it happen.

Hillbillys at play with cocos the herald has been doing this type of reporting or not reporting, since day one 20 years ago nothing new here locals will never again buy this type of shoddy reporting.
Pile on maybe one day they'll get the message we don't need them and we don't want them please go up north somewhere
Who the hell still reads the Herald? LOL. There are no real reporters in the entire RGV. Channel 5 is a huge joke along with 23 and 4.
The Herald reports on good and positive things. They are not into investigative reporting or fights, criminal activities etc.
Juanito, who gets paid off more? You or the Herald? That is the question at heart.
Who cares who get paid and for what, the one that work the most is the one that gets paid the most, the heart has nothing to do, that's a different matter.
The only fact here is the herald is a thing of the past and should not exist anymore.

They only report and that's it, and they get it wrong most of the time.
I have a few questions regarding the Herald. I wonder what their staffing is. How many reporters do they actually have covering Brownsville? And what experience do they have? Is it kids just out of journalism school who don't know how the world works, who don't know that the DA doesn't go to committee meetings as a rule? Is it "experienced" reporters who have never been anywhere but the Valley and have no perspective on life, is it people who don't read and so have a limited fund of knowledge? Or, as I fear, is it just a regional paper with a couple of people in Brownsville writing up feel good stories aimed at not ruffling feathers or affecting commerce? On any given day most of the stories are Hidalgo County related with a few stories that relate to the lower Valley and Brownsville. The Brownsville Herald, born on the 4th of July can not be counted on as a guardian of the public, calling out politicians and government entities for questionable acts. They are not what they once were. I wish they would just go ahead and call it a Hidalgo County-centric paper with a lower Valley section and, at least we could quit pretending about that.

The City Of Brownsville is a prime example of this the shooting death of a motorist who is attempting to flee the scene after being stopped for a class C theft on East Avenue.
The in custody death of a man in a hotel room on Central Blvd who was continously tasered even after he was handcuffed until his death by a Brownsville Police Officer.
The shooting death of another Brownsville motorist on Boca Chica Blvd by Brownsville Police Sergeant and two Officers as he attempted to leave the scene.
The in custody death of a female who was highly intoxicated and denied Medical attention by Brownsville Police Officers and with a Brownsville Police Lieutenant on scene watching every thing unfold and stood by and did absolutely nothing but neglecting his duties as a Supervisor. Leading to the females death.
All poorly investigated by the Texas Rangers.
All Officers in these cases did not face any type of disciplinary actions from Brownsville Police Chief Felix Sauceda some were rewarded with promotions and transfered to other divisions.
