Brownsville Police are looking for the alleged aggressor of a woman who was brutally beaten, tortured, and left for dead and who hovered between life and death for more than a week in the Intensive Care Unit of a local hospital.
Veronica Rivas Cespedes, was allegedly tortured – including pulling off her fingernails and chopping off her hair – before she was left for dead from a vicious beating, according to friends and relatives.
The alleged attack took place Sept. 15 and a warrant for the alleged aggressor was issued the next day, records indicate. The woman reportedly was kept in the ICU for the past week or more as a result of the assault.
Friends say that the aggressor became livid after he saw a posting on Facebook which he believed showed the victim fraternizing with customers at her workplace in the course of her work.
BPD investigators who did not issue any reports to the media or the public of her alleged aggressor at the time. The BPD told some news media representatives that there is no ongoing investigation into the assault.
But a photo of the obviously battered woman has made the rounds of social media and among her friends shows that she was the victim of a savage beating. Comments to this blog indicates that the assailant has believed the woman was dead before he fled."They told the family to keep quiet make believe that she was dead so they could make an arrest," said a family friend. "They did not inform the public that this vicious aggressor was walking the streets. If they had, maybe someone would have seen him and alert the authorities to prevent him from doing this to someone else."
Her co-workers at the lounge held a fundraiser to help her with medical expenses about a week and a half ago.
Family members, co-workers, and people who know Cespedes say they have been stonewalled by the police who asked them to keep quiet about the incident. Cespedes, a single mother, worked at the Toucan lounge, but is well known in the city because she performs with the popular band Picasso.

The Brownsville Hearld was left in the dark again but will have a big story for Sunday's paper. Hot story: City Commissioners got lost on boca chica Blvd doing a U-turns.
This is a better story in the hands of a writer.
Pobre mujer
Texas Rangers need to investigate the Brownsville Police Dept.. I bet if it was someone with connections, the BPD would already have the perpetrator in custody. Something smells rotten here.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, bringing awareness to a problem that affects many Valley families.
According to Cameron County DA Luis Saenz, domestic violence is an ongoing cycle as victims of domestic violence ultimately deciding not to follow through with their case, which can lead to even more violence -
Saenz said it’s been even worse during the pandemic - especially when people were forced to stay in their homes - leaving victims at even more of a risk with nowhere to go.
A Cameron County prosecutor said there were 700 reported cases of domestic violence last year - but believes the number is actually much higher.
For those of you who feel that this article should not have been written, you are as guilty as the cops who covered up the crime.
Wife beating is a civil rights problem of enormous magnitude. It is a crime that has been hidden by ignorance and social attitude. Society has viewed what happens between spouses as consensual, permissible, and private. Negative perceptions of women by both men and women have resulted in tolerance of wife beating.
There is documentation of a consistent pattern of nonarrest, adjustment, and referral based on police officer patrol experience. There is a practice of police "support function” that was and is not followed by the Brownsville Police Department.
Which brings us to the case of the attempted murder of Veronica Rivas Cespedes.
What role did the brownsville Police have in allowing her attacker run and hide?
Why was the public not made aware of this dangerous person being on the loose?
Did the cops take their sweet time getting to the home because it was from a woman who got beat on a regular basis?
Is the police chief a friend of this “Canicas” animal?
What kind of nickname is Canicas anyway? Maybe it’s he size of his tiny balls.
The people demand an external investigation into the handling of this case . We want to know what DA Luis Saenz is doing to hold the Brownsville Police Chief accountable for the mishandling of this case. A month has gone by with no answers. Veronica is a human being with children, family and friends who care about her but it seems that they are afraid to speak up. Someone out there knows where this worm is. Why hasn’t the DA offered a reward for information on the “canicitas“ whereabouts ? Is it because she is just another battered Mexican woman who is not related to anyone prominent or white?
There are many questions unanswered and it is no coincidence that is it Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The authorities in charge need to be held accountable and owe Veronica and her family and friends answers.
WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?
Domestic violence in Texas falls under the Texas Penal Code Title 5 Chapter 22 Section 22:01 (Assaultive Offenses). In the cases of family violence, the law specifically covers:
* Family members
* Household members (including foster children)
* Current or past partners (dating violence)
To commit domestic violence, one must:
* Knowingly or intentionally cause injury to a protected person
* Knowingly or intentionally threaten to injure a person
* Knowingly or intentionally engaging in physical contact the person finds offensive, provocative, or threatening
why do men do this?
Why do you think you own your vieja?
What is wrong with us
How have we raised our boys so wrong?
Where did we go wrong
Why didn't someone help her before it got to this point?
Did she tell anyone she was a prisoner?
We don't even treat Al Qaeda that bad
We can't torture terrorists who attack the US by the Geneva Convention
Yet this American woman was tortured by her boyfriend and left to die
here in the US of A, land of the free
She was not free
Having done nothing wrong, she was a singer, an entertainer, she did not shoot anyone or plant IED's
She brings joy to people in Brownsville with her singing and goes to her job and works to make a living
Shit no wonder women aren't returning to the workplace
Look at this she talks to customers as she is being paid to do, and almost dies
Supreme Court deciding whether or not the boston marathon bomber who killed and permanently paralyzed over 150 people should have the death penalty
Yet this innocent woman nearly had the death penalty on herself for doing nothing wrong
Why do we coddle men?
Why do men want to be violent then avoid responsibility?
Who taught them this and who continues to allow it?
I hope they catch him and cut off his balls.
I live in the same apartments as this lady. I feel so bad for her no one deserves this. I just don't understand why she kept going back to the guy since they were always fighting and she would kick him out. I hope she gets better and finally leaves the guy.
7:13 p.m. I know it is sad pero Quien sabe maybe she likes it that way.
Brownsville Police Department has a history of not making arrest in family violence cases why because they are lazy and don't want to do the paperwork..
