ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH: QUESTIONS...

Special to El Rrun-Rrun

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, bringing awareness to a problem that affects many Valley families.

According to Cameron County District Attorney Luis Saenz, domestic violence is an ongoing cycle as victims of domestic violence ultimately deciding not to follow through with their case, which can lead to even more violence.

Saenz said it’s been even worse during the pandemic – especially when people were forced to stay in their homes – leaving victims at even more of a risk with nowhere to go.

A Cameron County prosecutor said there were 700 reported cases of domestic violence last year, but believes the number is actually much higher. For those of you who feel that this article should not have been written, you are as guilty as the cops who covered up the crime.

Wife beating is a civil rights problem of enormous magnitude. It is a crime that has been hidden by ignorance and social attitude. Society has viewed what happens between spouses as consensual, permissible, and private. Negative perceptions of women by both men and women have resulted in tolerance of wife beating.

There is documentation of a consistent pattern of non-arrest, adjustment, and referral based on police officer patrol experience. There is a practice of police "support function” that was and is not followed by the Brownsville Police Department. Which brings us to the case of the attempted murder of Veronica Rivas Cespedes.

What role did the Brownsville Police have in allowing her attacker run and hide? Why was the public not made aware of this dangerous person being on the loose? Did the cops take their sweet time getting to the home because it was from a woman who got beat on a regular basis?

Is the police chief a friend of this “Canicas” animal? What kind of nickname is Canicas anyway? Maybe it’s he size of his tiny balls. The people demand an external investigation into the handling of this case .

We want to know what DA Luis Saenz is doing to hold the Brownsville Police Chief accountable for the mishandling of this case. A month has gone by with no answers.

Veronica is a human being with children, family and friends who care about her but it seems that they are afraid to speak up. Someone out there knows where this worm is. Why hasn’t the DA offered a reward for information on the “canicitas“ whereabouts?

Is it because she is just another battered Mexican woman who is not related to anyone prominent or white? There are many questions unanswered and it is no coincidence that is it Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The authorities in charge need to be held accountable and owe Veronica and her family and friends answers. WHAT IS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE?

Domestic violence in Texas falls under the Texas Penal Code Title 5 Chapter 22 Section 22:01 (Assaultive Offenses). In the cases of family violence, the law specifically covers:

* Family members

* Household members (including foster children)

* Current or past partners (dating violence) To commit domestic violence, one must:

* Knowingly or intentionally cause injury to a protected person * Knowingly or intentionally threaten to injure a person

* Knowingly or intentionally engaging in physical contact the person finds offensive, provocative, or threatening.

What Republican Abbott has wrought -

A school administrator in North Texas told teachers that, to comply with a new state law, if they teach a book about the Holocaust, they should also include a book that has “opposing” or “other perspectives,” reported NBC News.

In a recording of a meeting last Friday, which a (Southlake) Carroll Independent School District teacher provided to NBC News, Gina Peddy, the district’s executive director of curriculum and instruction, is heard training teachers on how to comply with a new Texas law that broadly seeks to block teachers from talking about white supremacy, racism and privilege in classrooms.

“We are in the middle of a political mess,” Peddy says in the recording, later adding: “No one knows how to navigate these waters.”

“Make sure that if you have a book on the Holocaust, that you have one that has opposing, that has other perspectives,” Peddy says, as shocked outbursts and murmurs are heard around the room.

“What?” one teacher says.

“How do you oppose the Holocaust?” asks another.

Well, I see we are taking racism out for a walk today. Or maybe not, maybe "white" people get complete justice that is not available to others. I don't think so, but maybe.

Saenz.

Duardo,

Stop trolling Barton. Search for four leaf clovers in a McAllen park. Cash in all your S&H Green Stamps for some decent silverware. Get a love life. Life is too short to be lonely in McAllen, blog squatting all day.

Please verify your information before posting. We are saddened for what happened to Vero. No one should ever have to go through something that she’s going through. I want to clarify that “canicas” is not the aggressor. “Canicas” real name is Jose and not Amado Martinez. Canicas did however worked at Toucans for sometime. Amado was never an employee or associated with Toucans. This post is only making “Canicas” a target for a crime he has not committed. Continued prayers for our friend Vero & anyone affected.

The Citizens of Brownsville need to hold the police chief Felix Sauceda accountable while he parades around the City while his Department can't properly serve or protect the citizens of Brownsville..This case is gross neglect of Duty and time to hold Chief Sauceda accountable and if the City Manager Npe Bernal can't do it then time to get rid of Bernal and elect some Commissioner that have a pair and care for the citizens of Brownsville!

Total failure from Brownsville Police Department!
