My hat is off to Danny and his staff. This past Tuesday there was a small procession of Dia de Los Muertos revelers from the old City Cemetery, down E. Adams ending in front of the Kracken. About a third of the crown consisted of small children and toddlers in full costume. At the Kracken, Danny hosted the revelers inside his business providing free pizza and water for all. He and his staff must have popped out at least 20 pizzas to feed the crowd and the children had a wonderful time. There was an infectious sense of pure spirit and joy among the group, especially the children. I was touched by the way the Holiday celebrates the memories of our ancestors in such a joyous and respectful way. It is people like Danny that bring the blood, sweat and tears to the revival of the downtown entertainment District. He helped organize the whole week of events including coordinating with the folks from across to add an international flavor to the affair. Unlike others, his entrepreneurship is real and markets and manages his business at all levels without walking around with his hand out looking for grants and the like. If downtown continues to come back and make a permanent mark for our city, it will be because of people like Danny.
