City crews who barricaded access to downtown businesses three days before the end of the Christmas shopping season and were sent home after the outcry by city merchants, are back.
PUB and City Public Works Department returned to Elizabeth Street to install the new energy saving structures paid by SpaceX owner Elon Musk.
The new photometric lights which focus their light on the street and are part of a dark-sky initiative will replace 167 of the old lamp posts on Elizabeth and Washington streets. The focused lights are said to maximize lighting and save energy.
In the photo at the top, the new light is on the forefront and one can see the old round bulbs on lamp posts across the street on the next block in the background.
In the middle photo, workers install the new posts. In the photo below, the distinctive round bulb globes are stacked as the crews remove the old posts.
