(Ed.'s Note: When Cameron County Sheriff's Department deputies headed by Deputy Alfonso Salinas arrived at a Brownsville apartment complex last Monday and started knocking on doors looking for a suspect named Llamas, they inadvertently knocked on the wrong door, that of a groggy cancer patient who was sleeping under medication. Instead of listening to him, Salinas accused him of being under then influence of drugs or alcohol and the man grew upset and asked the deputy for his badge and his number.
Salinas offered to take off his badge and teach him a lesson. Ms. Cuellar recorded the conversation and went to the Cameron County Sheriff's Department to file a complaint. She waited for hours and was never seen by anyone in the Eric Garza administration and left.
A commenter said that Garza gave Salinas an award last October for talking down a suicide attempt. In this case, he is anything but tactful, friendly, or reassuring. Is this how they serve the people? This is the change we needed?)

Report the officer to the DPS. They are tasked with taking complaints on other state licensed law enforcement agencies. Also report this to the FBI civil rights division. Complaining to the officer's supervisor will only get you retaliation. I could repeat this over and over again an people in the valley refuse to listen. If you don't want to complain to the DPS or FBI, maybe you like being the victims of abuse. If you plan to sue, hire a lawyer that has no connections to the valley. A local lawyer will only take your money and collude with the crooked cops.

Regardless who is to blame and what caused the escalation to boil over, the responsible person to take control and deescalate is the person with the badge. When an officer of the law makes a statement such as this officer did, I'll take off my badge and teach you a lesson, WRONG!!! That's a premeditated intended crime AND a threat to commit bodily harm if not death. This officer should be charged with touristic threat, be striped of his official duties and required to take anger management treatment.
