Owner Danny Arizpe [at right on top picture] and his master brewer Rollie Peña (left) started brewing their hooch in Arizpe's backyard for about a year and have decided to bring their beer-making skills to Downtown Browntown.
Assisted in the renovation of the building by a Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation seed grant, they hope to be fully operational by the end of summer, possibly in August. This Friday at 7 p.m. they will hold a beer fiesta to introduce their new enterprise. The building is across 8th Street from the Palm Lounge, at 805 Elizabeth. There will be another beer fiesta introduction at noon Saturday during Charro Days. Proceeds from the $10 entry fee will be donated to the Camille Playhouse Project.
Charro Days attire is encouraged.
Arizpe said that while other towns in the Rio Grande Valley in Hidalgo County and even in South Padre Island already have working breweries, Brownsville does not.
He and his partner Joey Martinez and brewer Peña are hoping to change that. The Pluton Brewing Company got its start among friends in a westside [Las Prietas] neighborhood off the Military Highway and was named after a street by that name in the Galaxia neighborhood. This is where some of the originators of this project grew up, knowing each other since they were boys.
Arizpe and Joey Martinez – along with their partners in the venture – recently gained a major boost in being one of five winners of the 2021 StartUp Texas Pitch Summit. It was an event hosted and organized by the BCIC
In spring 2021, it was a virtual event of four judges – two local and two from out of area. They heard from the startups about their business plans and current operations. According to Positive Valley News, the quality of the presentations was assessed along with the viability of their enterprises. The judges then chose five winners with each receiving a $20,000 grant.
The winners in addition to Pluton were Amor y Pan, Cilantro Sauce, SECNER Holdings and Raw Xocolat. The local startups represent a wide variety of businesses from making beer to chocolate to a keto-friendly baked goods company, and a technology and automation services firm.
Being a winner is validation for Pluton’s efforts thus far, they told VBR's reporter Ricardo Cavazos.
“One of the realizations is that now we have to do it,” Martinez told . “We have no excuses. We have to move forward and open the brewery.”
Bottoms up, boys!

That’s all we need....more DRUNK MEXICANS. I wonder if they take food stamps?!
Beer/bar comes, beer/bar goes.
The endless business cycle.
pos si, apa. Llegan mas chelas. No, no se cuanto tiempo duraran.
Tia con beneficios.
Bars should be like El Tenampa..... music, men with money, mariachi, corridos, no women allowed and no children. Then they stay in business.
By the way, VBR's Ricardo Cavazos is your old R. Daniel Cavazos of The Herald.
He's freelancing to make ends meet.
ja ja ja
Good news, will go, but will not contribute to that for whites only project.
Hey..let’s open another bar downtown…..

Hillbillys make alcohol out of their own shit and get drunk on the smell.
BABOSOS.
This too will fail. The sophisticated people of Browntown drinking backyard beer. LOL!!! Another waist of tax payers money.
Another stupid beer joint in downtown Brownsville. This is what grants the COB is giving out. How about a city grant for a marijuana bar. In that way, our sister city Matamoros can supply the products to Brownsville to celebrate charro days very high and drunk.
After charro days is over next is hillbilly jamburrios days, held behing all the beer joints on adams st. all hillbillys are welcome
Will not be successful.
Cheap beer, and they want to charge big city prices. Big city like McAllen Texas.
Not worth the risk.
ONE bad batch of beer everyone will be in the hospital.
"Here's your glass of overly hoppy beer served in a lukewarm mug. That'll be $73.84...plus tip."
Ya no sean mamones, let it be, they support the most racist organization here, the camille playground. One place I won't visit (the beer joint), unless there is seatings on the back, for color only.
On a POSITIVE note: These young business men are bringing something new to Brownsville, it's not just another BAR! Give them an opportunity to make a living for themselves and provide employment to others. The choice is ours, the opportunity is theirs.

Right, lets all go there and get stinkin' drunk like the attorneys over at the osyter bar. Only problem the lawyers have privileges and Juanito's friends don't. See ya all at the city jail!
9:47 am.
A PICTURE IS WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS!
There is nothing positive in the pictures. I made my choice, to much risk in there poor handling of the poor equipment. You can go drink all you need. When you get sick for days, lesson learned.
If you don't believe me, go to dirty Tray pizza place and look at the pictures on the menu, gross.

Totally agree, its that dallas culture puros mugrosos. He'll be in jail sooooooon.
9:43 PM
I believe you're taking 9:47 AM's comment out of context. You're obviously very upset about something much more deeper then you care to share. Either way, like it stats, "The choice is ours, the opportunity is theirs." I believe that statement speaks for it self.
