(Ed.'s Note: For the years following the departure of the University of Texas in Brownsville to become a Brownsville satellite of the UTRGV, 80 orchestra-level string instruments valued at roughly $1,000 apiece or more, have lain in storage on the grounds of the Texas Southmost College. Since UTRGV has no use for them in Edinburg, it hit upon the idea of making big P.R. points in the city that subsidized them for the better part of 21 years with annual "transfers" of $50 million from the community college to the oil-and-gas rich UT System.
They then moved the entire department to Edinburg and left some excess string instruments behind in a warehouse. So they called the local lap dog newspaper to write a fluff piece about their largesse to the Brownsville community to showcase their altruism. The benefactor of this kindness from UTRGV is the Revival Of Cultural Arts (ROCA), a little-known non-profit housed at the former Carlotta K. Petrina Museum. Lo del agua a la agua. Your tax dollars at work.)

Since you're misinformed, as is so usual, ROCA runs the George Ramirez Performing Arts Academy, as well as the Carlota Petrina Center. They serve and have been for years, under the leadership of Hilda Ledesma, the neediest students in our community and have been a major influence on the cultural development of Brownsville. But keep whining. This gift was arranged through the Brownsville Soiety for the Performing Arts, thanks to Dr. Quantz' efforts in appropriating the valuable assets, from UTRGV, to be used to teach needy students in Brownsville. I guess it's ok, Juan, if you can't see the forest for the trees.
Bueno, pos toquenme las palomitas.
Que botitas, baby.

I smell gringo, the only ones that go to the opera house so who benefits? Sell them and fix the pot holes and flooding and street lights. Gringos don't need funding from the poorest city in the USA. PENDEJA/O....
OR move the whore house and sell the instruments to help local citizens that need heating during the cold weather or for other necessities THEY PAY TAXS TOO, UNLIKE SOME ELECTED OFFICALS AND PRIVILEGE INDIVIDUALS THAT DON'T PAY SHIT (PROPERTY TAXS).
ROCA could not even run a Raspa stand.
Do you know who is the puppet in charge at ROCA?
None other than
La Vieja politiquera de Cameron Park?
Always catering to the gringo and privilege cocos. They put puppets and make them think they are really in charged when in reality they are NOT... Help the majority not just the privileged few and pay your taxes.
Juanito is exposing LA VERDAD
KEEP DIGGING MR. MONTOYA WE ALL ARE BEHIND YOU tienen miedo and they try to bully NOT GOING TO WORK!
wonder if Henry Cuellar is responsible for this? He is shitting bricks as we speak.

Just going to add what others wrote in the past; some of these individuals need to learn how to write—pulpit preaching insolence. Pretty sure we all know people who work at non-profits and skim off the top when donors drop funds or use their compadre status for personal benefit. Yeah, kiddos coming to ROCA don't afford the luxury of IDEA or religious schooling. They don't have access to posh classes like other parents have time to criticize rather than support the cause of these kiddos deserving more Arts connection. Also, teachers can't work for free, so Ledezma's outsourcing to actual TSC & UT RGV music students learning the trade does provide an equivalent exchange for a hands-on-deck approach. Long term, the teachers-to-be do get to experience the chaos to ensue in BISD; let's not forget overbearing parents who want to rule with an iron fist. Sadly, the many experts that come to these schools, if the community vetted all incoming professors at public universities, who knows what kind of community members universities would pump out. As it is, we do lack too few people with master's degrees and doctorates. Not surprised with these comments, I'd happily order my tacos at your shop, and when you serve me, I promise to leave you a 20% tip. That's only fair.

CONVOUTED BITH, THIS IS A BLOG NOT A FORMAL THESIS NOR A DISSERTATION, AS YOU ARE ACCOUSTOMED TO READING.
Normal individuals can do the same job or even better than ANY master's degrees and/or PhD idiot.
Please don't concern your self with your eating habits please stay at your luxurious restaurants with your masters and phd friends.
As a side note: How can you work with low level citizens, with your highfaluting attitude of associating with scholarly professional and sapients, specially here in BROWNTOWN?
I truly believe this organization is in need of some, local low level educated volunteers (sic), that truly represent THIS community.

Local elected city oficials should read the response at 6:26pm. A change is needed at that organization, if it is using any taxes to operate or any other agency that is contributing to the operation of this small-minded group. Dr. Quant should also read the response or is he included or part of this narrow-minded individuals at ROCA?

WOW! So what is he/she doing here where the local unhighly educated congregate?
Non of those two looked like they are highly educated and does this city need more educated people? Maybe they want more to make more mula that is? and they complain about the compadre system? I'd rather have a barbacoa taco, slightly more expensive than a regular taco...do i qualify?
ROCA personnel making fun of eating tacos. They need to go, new blood is in need at that place quickly...
altruism, wrong word it should be "egocentrism" finally we know no wonder...
Citizens here are no longer mis-informed about this organization too bad Ramirez would have done something about what ROCA now represents - too bad.
I love tacos it is one of my favorite mexican foods. I go to a taco stand or a restaurant and I see a lot of white folks eating tacos. It never crossed my mind that all those folds were uneducated and that was why they were eating tacos. No wonder non of them left any tips...
ESTUPIDA!
