MEMORIAL DAY SILENT MARCH STARTS AT 10 AT HEB, VIETNAM VETS WILL HONOR FALLEN COMRADES AT HANNA H.S. AT 8:15

(Brownsville's own Medal of Honor winner Jose Lopez stands guard as the Silent March color guard approaches Veterans Park on Central Blvd. last year.)

The American Vietnam Veterans Chapter 1 of Brownsville will hold its 37th annual Memorial Day services in front of the high school is a plaque with the names of 28 Brownsville men who were killed in the Vietnam War.
That list includes Brownsville's James Albert Champion (below)whose Missing in Action status was recently changed to Killed In Action. He was never found.
The first Brownsville soldier killed in action in Vietnam was Cpl. Albert Avalos whose brother – Ernesto Avalos, also a combat veteran – wears his memorial T-shirt every year.
The event will begin at 8:15 a.m. in front of Hanna Early College High School at 2615 E. Price Road.

At 10 a.m. the annual Silent March will begin. Marchers will honor the ultimate sacrifice paid by local soldiers in all of the nations' wars, lately Iraq and Afghanistan. The march will start at the H-E-B store on Central Boulevard and end at Veterans Park, also on Central Boulevard.

The annual Silent March draws at least 100 retired veterans, family members of the fallen troops and members of the community who want to honor those killed in the nation’s wars.

There will be a flag raising ceremony at Veterans Park and speeches remembering those fallen veterans. There will not be a 21-gun salute to honor the 21 fallen students and teachers at Uvalde..

Who the Hell was the small group from Harlingen waving the Confederate Flags in all it's Glory ? Sons of the Confederacy?, KKK ?, Arian Brotherhood ? They stunk up the place and should stay in Harlingen next year and from now on. Who is responsible for letting what clearly is a racist symbol denigrate our Veteran's Park ? That shit may fly in Harlingen, but I would advise these folks to keep out next year.

Who cares where he was from? The bottom line is that he gave his life defending people like you and me. To the family and friends of Cpl. Albert Avalos thank you!

There's a problem about the list of names at Brownsville high school. Two veterans are missing but in front of federal building, all the names are there. Those men were not from Hanna High. It's time to move that plaque to veterans park.
