Another example of why we're losers.

The arena lost to Republicans.

Mexican Canelo Alvarez lost to a Russian.

If inflation continues and higher appraisals continue in Cameron County we will not be able to afford to live here this is so ridiculous our homes are over valued we're probably have to move to Canada

Glad you and your side lost Rrun Rrun.

I'm sorry little panocha this is not the time to build an arena let's get our shit together it time 2 helped the people from Cameron County look at the price of gas hi property appraisals

If you go to San Benito you're still in Cameron County. Let them pay for it and I'll happily drive an extra 20 minutes to go to San Benito. People drive from McAllen to go to the island and don't subsidize it. When it's profitable investors will build it. If private investors can't make it profitable the public won't either. Anything run by the public sector will make less money than anything run by the private sector. Thus is because the private sector uses their money not ours.

BROWNSVILLE WON!

It might be the biggest city in the valley, but city and county leaders are not the brightest colors in the crayon box.

If Brownsville wants an arena, let Brownsville voters decide. We're going to vote Eddie Treviño out. I hope the arena isn't on the ballot in November.

No que no , cabrones

"And STILL...the city of losers!"

CC Commissioners should get their hero Elon Musk to build them the “Space Arena”.

He just paid $44 billion for TWITTER.

Next we vote out little Eddie for promoting corruption

Brownsville will never progress as long as we have politicans who are in office to get rich at taxpayers expense as well as their close friends.

Lol democRATS lost

Cameron county taxpayers won. They didn’t want a concept that came with suspicious intent. Let me explain, chicken plates In exchange for votes has been a long standing practice in local political races. After someone wins the seat and life moves on, we are still neck-deep in compadrismo, corruption, dirty money, road potholes, poverty, backroom dealing and have been for decades. So you see, people have become suspicious of free chicken plates.

Second, the advertising of artists such as J-Lo, Pitbull, Toby Keith, Lionel Ritchie and Elton John to Cameron county are unbelievable claims that voters can see right through as deceptive. Some say that legally, they could have been the basis of future lawsuits in the event the tax money was handed out, construction completed and none of these entertainers came. If so, The county dodged a big bullet here.

Third, cameron county realized that Dan Sanchez was assisting. Sánchez gathers with the kind of crowd that ends up arrested. There was an instance where his own court deputy got arrested after work. Sánchez was working in Los Indios as prosecutor when his assisting Cameron county deputy got shackled. Sánchez might not be the kind of person to give 100 million to.

Fourth, the location proposed next to Madeira seemed pre-selected and not an impartial, transparent selection. Since when does public service pre-select an important site without notifying the public in advance of possible other sites?

I’m summary, Cameron county majority voters did not believe in the proposition. The proposal was payback of years of unchecked corruption since the days of Conrado Cantu and many like him.

Sorry J-Lo, we won’t have the venue for you this time but don’t worry, with The same group still here, they’ll try to grab the cash a third time so don’t count Cameron county out just yet.

Can we just sell the Brownsville Sports Park and use those monies for the Arena? I'm sure we can can recoup its cost prize plus all the funds spent on its "facelifts". Let me just call Charlie Atkinson he knows its true appraisal value.

Finally, the voters woke up and said NO.

Those that wanted the Arena....go to your bank, get the money out from your accounts and give it to Eddie Trevino and the builders that live far away from Brownsville. That is true love. Show you love for Brownsville. Give up your money and give it to the Friends of Cameron County Arena.

Investing your own money so that others can enjoy your money: That is true love.

The Truth said...

The ‘pro’ Arena politicians really pulled out all the stops and STILL lost the vote … by a bigger margin than last time! They were on radio, TV, newspapers, everywhere pimping the arena.
Two problems here:
1) After the losing the vote last time, the politicians immediately starting plotting to put it back on the ballot. At a public meeting when an item is voted down doesn’t it sort of smell when the defeated group immediately puts the item back on the agenda??
2) To promote the idea that the arena isn’t going to cost the ‘taxpayers a dime’ is simply NOT true. Upkeep and maintenance will cost someone. Duh! I’m sure there will be tax abatements and economic development monies somewhere hidden in the mix. To say there will be no public funds to provide ongoing operations for a project like this, is simply a bold faced lie.
Further why is the County so intent on providing such a jewel that will benefit mostly a private development?? Does someone in County government have a vested interest?
Free is never free…especially when it comes to public funds.

Too bad. The arena would have been a boon for the county and for Brownsville.

The Eddie Trevino Center for Calabaza Studies failed!

Amen. People are thinking finally. And for those who are commenting that we are losers, no we are not we are smart and know what is viable and what is not. It is a shame that our leaders county and cities are just in it for their own interests and not the county’s as a whole. Why don’t the county leaders ask Musk to fork out some money and build it He probably can build several with his billions.

That's Hilarious.

Can't do it on the County tit; guess it don't get done Mijo.

Fuck fake conservative Sergio Sanchez at KURV for promoting the arena. Talks out of both sides of his mouth by doing ads promoting Harlingen and then promotes the arena that would take business away from Harlingen.

The FBI should investigate why Eddie Treviño wants this arena built so badly.

Anonymous said...

So much for the promise "I can make it happen" from Trevino to the developers. Mr. Ed, why have you tried so hard to make this happen? I am so glad just enough voters were able to see thru the fog and wonder the same thing. Let it go Mr. Ed, we can see the payoffs waiting from the developers. But then again, you could've used this venue to promote another concert performed by a convicted child molester.

So glad we haven't forgotten about crooked ex/CBP Charlie Atkinsons crooked time in commissioners seat. Rata

Well the public has spoken all 17,829 of them both for and against. Maybe this time the politicians will say no more time wasted on this Ah but no, Joey and Eddie are plotting to bring it back again. "One more time is answer we can do it" they both say. Remember who elected you both, the people of Cameron County and you guys are already on thin ice with them. As the song says "Let it Go". Or both of you will be history this coming November. Just sayin.

What City, and County Leaders should do is address the issues of flooding at Four Corners, in and around Hanna H.S. and surrounding areas. Next they should address the road conditions especially all of the pot holes. Plus tackle the issue of taxes having to do with property taxes.
Stop with the special interest, and attend to the issues that they were elected to handle. It’s time for them to start listening to there constituents, and there needs!!!!

Anonymous said...

now what... they will get their money from every tax payer who pays utility bills and raise their prices since they didn't get their arena etc....

Anonymous said...

Any such major public construction project in Brownsville, would have the sole purpose of lining the pockets of our crooked politicos, their families and friends. That is the way they roll in Browntown.

Anonymous said...

This is a trust issue. Brownsville voters have had enough with the leadership and wheeling and dealing. At all levels.

People or groups buy buildings and get the city to remodel them or blow musk money on friends/family plan or concerts.
City give away city resources to friends to buy support…

It’s terrible

Our "disgraced leaders" should give Musk's money back and use in meaningful ways that will truly benefit ALL OF Brownsville, not just enrich themselves.

As for the Arena, go ahead and build it, but build it with the funds of developer who stands to benefit the most. Or go borrow money from the bank. There are VC funds galore out there.

Judging by the comments of county residents, there is a pattern of distrust on full display, over the arena tax money fiasco, I would say the Democratic Party in south Texas is in trouble.

Another sign seems to be that Cindy Hinojosa cannot win a lowly JP seat, without runoff, that one would expect to be an easy win if you are married to the Texas state democratic chairperson Gilberto Hinojosa, supposedly a power broker in the party.

Im sure you can come up with other examples.
