(Ed.'s Note: It had been a while since we had run into former Cameron County Clerk Joe Rivera, center, former JP 2-2 Oscar Tullos, right, and their friend Rolando Gonzalez, left, at the Southwinds Lounge. Their hair is a bit whiter, like ours, but we remember them from our days serving with the county. We dug into our files and found them when they were in a more robust posture.
Here Joe stands with Ofi, his better half, the year that he was named the County Clerk of the Year at the courthouse on Harrison Street.
And the Tullos family poses at their home on Cavazos Road in North Brownsville.
Time has taken its toll on the three old friends, but the gathering suited a purpose. Rivera is moving to San Antonio to be near his family this May 17 and it was a way for them to say their goodbyes. After serving the county as clerk for more than 30 years, he leaves behind a grateful community and countless acquaintances. Hast la vista, Joe and Ofi! Vayanse por la sombrita!)

Isn't Oscar Tullos a highly decorated Vietnam War veteran. Many medals for valor and courage on the battlefield. Heard he carried two wounded soldiers on his shoulders while bullets and bombs were flying all around. As brave as he is smart.
