COUNTY TO ABANDON RIGHT-OF-WAYS, TRANSFER TO SPACEX

(Ed.'s Note: Although the agenda item was tabled for the next two weeks, it now appears that Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño and the commissioners court will abandon three county right-of-ways in Boca Chica Village – now Starbase – and transfer them for the exclusive use of Elon Musk's SpaceX. 

The items to abandon Remedios Avenue, and Joanna and Annette streets were placed on Tuesday commissioners court meeting, but tabled after questions arose about whether the signatures on a petition included with the item could come from any Precinct 1 residents or had to come from residents who lived along the rights-of-way. Just one or two residents showed up to address the issue, officials said.

SpaceX apparently needs the roads – which have been maintained by Pct. 1 county crews for decades, are used very little and face mostly vacant lots – to reinforce them for use of heavy equipment in their rocket manufacturing facility. Their use would be restricted top SpaceX vehicles and personnel. The remaining residents of the Kopernik Shores village residents would likely have to use the San Martin Blvd. entrance to access their homes.)
