Poor Arturo "Turi" Treviño. 

For some reason or other, his grandiose plans to "establish new traditions" in Brownsville somehow seem to go awry.

Remember the Gringo de Mayo faux celebration that resulted in his group using the newly-renovated Market Square and as a result of food vendors actually cooking and spilling grease on the brick work, left nasty stains that had to be steam cleaned at taxpayer expense weeks after they had finished using the city facilities.

Well, the latest wrinkle was a Lucha Libre "private party"held in the open skies of the shelled-out building at the corner of 13th and Levee. You know, the building caddy corner from the private parking lot. 

Well, apparently no one contacted the owner of the private parking lot when Turi's buddies appeared and parked there believing arrangements had been made for them to use it.

Wrong. Guess again. 

The owners had a contract with the El Rancho tow truck company who set about towing parked car of Lucha Libre attendees. Those whose cars hadn't been taken away had to fork out cash on the barrel head to the tow truck operators to get unhooked. 

But if arrangements had not been made for parking, Turi should understand that the owners of the parking lot charge for parking. It’s a business. Everyone knows it. And last week, so did the organizers and the patrons of the event.

It was basically another St. Joseph alumni entertaining event with old Mexican Luchadores in a building with no roof and permits, but that shouldn't stop Turi and friends from making a few thousand dollars from the well-heeled crowd.

Not only is there no parking but Arturo also blocked the alley to promote his drive through buisiness van. So if the emergency BPD, ambulance or FF needed access for life saving access, well you had to ask Turi to move his carcacha.

We hate to say this, but even with the tow truck fiasco, those wrestlers are still remembered by Mata residents when they were still young decades ago and wrestled in the open air of el coliseo.

They're a bit long in the tooth now, and it's a wonder someone didn't get hurt pulling an old muscle or throwing their back. The smell of Vicks and Ben-Gay wafted through the night air.

Turi, of course, took it personally that his brain storm was so badly received and said the "private party" was meant to "help revitalize downtown and...takes away my motivation to volunteer in coming up with ideas to motivate people to go downtown, I along with some friends threw this free party; for that reason we are paying for their tow truck fees, regardless of whose fault it was...but rest assured we will not be doing events downtown until the fe is lowered bcs all that is motivating is for a tow truck acting as a predator"
