On March 2021, the Cameron County drive-thru tax lanes located on Sam Houston Boulevard in San Benito was open and available for taxpayers to use.
Cameron County Commissioners’ Court purchased the San Benito Bank and Trust building in November 2020 along with drive-thru lanes across the street for $500,000. After three months of remodeling and just over $100,000 of investment, the drive-thru bank reopened after eight years of sitting vacant.
According to Cameron County Tax Assessor-Collector, Tony Yzaguirre Jr., it is now Harlingen's turn.
"We will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony this Thursday, said Yzaguirre. "The public is invited to join us and see the services that we provide local residents."
He said that drive-thru lanes will be open on Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be open during lunch hours. The drive-thu lanes are located at 300 E. Van Buren.
Payments on property taxes, contract agreements, issue registration renewals, TABC payments and renewals and/or collections for VIT will be conducted at the drive-thru lanes.
No city funds were applied to renovate the drive-thru lanes; all the work was paid for by Cameron County.

The drive thru windows at Wilson are horrendous;a virtual 'RUST BUCKET. The cannisters are dirty as are the tubes. Service is less than desirable. Went to the San Benito drive thru; closed due to plumbing problems. Mas triste!
