JOE KINNEY'S COBBLEHEADS BAR AND GRILL TURNS 26

(Ed.'s Note: It started out as Trudy's Piano Bar on Central Blvd. and was a natural magnet for Winter Texans – AKA Snowbirds – before Joe Kinney established his Cobbleheads Bar and Grill in 1996. Joe still had plenty of hair then, as can be seen in the photo of the inaugural grand opening held there at the time. Before that, Kinney had a bar near the corner of Washington and 8th Street in the building now occupied by La Carta Brava bar. That building used to be a residence that was turned into a business. Today, Cobbleheads, has become a live music venue for the likes of Emilio Crixell's Los Blusanor or his Border Soul, formerly the Connectors, who started playing down the street at the Amber Pub where the Main Public Library now stands. They are now a mainstay for Cobbleheads Sundays On The Deck and JOe's bar has carved out a niche as a must-do political venue during elections with candidates providing the botana while Kinney operates a cash bar. Kayak races in the resaca and other Charro Days events draw crowds during that fiesta. Congats, Joe!)

Trudy's Lounge was something special. There should be a historical marker on Cobblestone's deck.

With a photo of the Big Blondie.

I've seen Jerry Mchale there. Sitting all alone at the bar.

The food is bad and who cares about el Pendi Mchale. People only go there to drink. Which is great if it is your thing.
